"As a lifelong boater, I can't think of anything more frightening than being far away from shore in a disabled boat. I hope you're never faced with an emergency on the water, but if you are I can guarantee you'll never forget the relief you feel the moment you see the Coast Guard coming to your rescue. They're there for you when you need them. I'm asking you to be there for them - by making a gift today to the Coast Guard Foundation."
Those are the words of a Kingman Boater who, after being rescued himself,
has decided to do work through the Coast Guard Foundation to do something positive to help the families of our local Coast Guard servicemen and women. This member of our community has anonymously offered to match the donations of other Kingman Boaters up to $32,500 to refurbish the community rec center at Air Station Cape Cod.
This is a chance for us - as boaters and members of the Kingman Community
to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of those servicemen and women - right here in our home waters - who are here for us in our times of need. Five of us have already contributed a total of $1,300, matched to make $2,600 of the money needed. Every dollar we donate will go directly to the $65,000 rec center restoration, and will be matched dollar for dollar by our anonymous Kingman Boater.
