June 2015
USA Hockey Elects Jim Smith
New President

Jim Smith was unanimously elected as president of USA Hockey on June 6 at the organization's Board of Directors meeting. Smith succeeds Ron DeGregorio, who retired after 12 years as president.

Smith, who resides in suburban Chicago, has been on USA Hockey's executive committee the last 20 years as secretary and treasurer. He will also serve as president of the USA Hockey Foundation and during the last 30 years, Smith has been involved in nearly every facet of USA Hockey.

"I'm honored and humbled for the opportunity to serve as president of such a wonderful organization," Smith said. "To follow in the footsteps of Walter Bush (longtime USA Hockey President) and Ron DeGregorio is a difficult task, but with the help of our Board and everyone involved, I look forward to continuing to build the solid foundation that is currently in place."

Bauer Increases Efforts to Promote Defective Goalie Mask Recall

Bauer has increased its efforts to publicize a recall of a defective cage that attaches to a goalie mask after a Canadian youth goalie suffered a serious eye injury May 30 in Toronto. The recall of the defective cage took place in late March after nine incidents of wire breakage.

Bauer said it followed all regulatory requirements of a recall and ordered retailers to stop selling the defective cage and to post a recall poster prominently. More than 2,500 people purchased the cage from April 2013 until February 2015. Bauer issued the voluntary recall following nine incidents of the wire cage cracking or breaking after it was hit with a puck.
