Norwalk Association of Silvermine Homeowners

2013 Membership Drive

Greetings from NASH! With the arrival of spring, it's time again for our annual membership drive. To those of you who have supported us in the past, we tip our hats and ask that you contribute again. If you're not yet a member, we hope you'll become one, and help us continue our work on behalf of our community. In either case, we have attached a membership form for your convenience.

2011 and 2012 were exciting years for NASH. We placed thetwo homes of Verneur Pratt on the National Register of Historic Places, where they join the previously registered Silvermine Center (including more than 75 properties) as well as The Perry Avenue Bridge. Work also began on The Silvermine Avenue National Historic District application, which could add up to 50 homes to the Register.

On the legal front, NASH challenged a proposed eleven (11) home development on Silvermine Avenue, based on its density, improper use of "conservation development" and other issues. The resulting project, while imperfect, is more consistent with the neighborhood.

NASH has also secured city approval for a nature habitat on a vacant Comstock Hill parcel of land. This will feature public walking paths, indigenous plantings, and provide access to spectacular views of the Silvermine Valley. Subject to final plans, Keep Norwalk Beautiful volunteers began clearing the site, and we expect to begin in earnest this year.

The 4th Historic House Tour, held on September 15, 2012, included an outstanding show of more than 80 paintings by the original members of the Knockers Club, an exhibit of work from Silvermine area cartoonists, as well as fascinating historical homes.

We invite members to visit our website at www.nashct.com., where you'll find: pending matters, prior credits, Silvermine history, Board minutes and member affiliations, as well as key links to City Hall, the Guild, the Tavern and the Silvermine Community Association.

Our Mission
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The mission of the Norwalk Association of Silvermine Homeowners (NASH) is to provide a voice for Silvermine as a historic, cultural and natural resource. We support a vision of a rural neighborhood within whose boundaries change can continue to occur while the feeling of community and the "sense of place" remain strong, the important historic structures are preserved, and the existing biodiversity, in all its richness, is not compromised.
