Spotlight: Campbell River Chamber
| |
 | | Campbell River's Daigle Welding & Marine won a $2 million contract with Port Metro Vancouver |
Campbell River Chamber focuses on member success
When Daigle Welding & Marine won a major shipbuilding contract with Port Metro Vancouver (PMV), the Campbell River & District Chamber went all out to celebrate that member success.
The Chamber worked side by side with PMV to host a media event to announce Daigle Marine's win: a $2 million contract to build two harbour patrol vessels in Campbell River.
"It was important for us to be able to celebrate the success of one of our members," said Colleen Evans, president and CEO of the Campbell River & District Chamber.
Colleen added that the event helped showcase Chamber value to the community.
"To have a member stand up and say, it's thanks to the Chamber that they're in the position they're in - that demonstrates value," she said.
Colleen said the event, and the buzz it created in the Campbell River business community, reinforced her Chamber's sense of how Chambers need to show value to members and prospective members.
"It's always got to be member-focused," she said. "We have to demonstrate our impact on members' growth and success."
She said her Chamber plans to capitalize on that lesson in the coming year.
"This year, our focus is on how can we, at every opportunity, profile our members' success."
She said the Chamber plans to do this by, for example, profiling member businesses in a local lifestyle publication and by leveraging social media to celebrate member wins in real time.
If your Chamber is innovating or has achieved a recent success, we'd love to feature your story here. Please contact Jenny MacPhee at jmacphee@bcchamber.org. |

John Juricic retires from Board
Message from BC Chamber Board chair Jim Belsheim:
John Juricic has advised that due to the rapid growth of his business, he needs to step down from the BC Chamber Board. While we are delighted for John's business success, we regret losing him as a director. John's contributions, positive approach and insightful questions were valued and added much to our Board.
On behalf of the entire Board of Directors at the BC Chamber, I would like to thank John Juricic for his valuable years of service to the Chamber movement.

BC Chamber Board nominations
Know a great local leader who would bring a strong skillset to the BC Chamber's board?
The BC Chamber will continue to accept nominations for our 2014-15 Board of Directors until March 24.
There are now seven vacant seats on the Board. This number has increased from six, due to the mid-term resignation of director John Juricic (Vancouver Island).

Cash in on federal contracts
More and more B.C. businesses are benefiting from Chamber-hosted events on how to land federal contracts.
This month, the federal government's Office of Small and Medium Enterprises (OSME), is once again on the road, presenting procurement how-to's for small businesses at various local Chamber workshops and tradeshows.
In its presentations, OSME is emphasizing that small businesses have a real shot at landing federal contracts, and explaining that the federal government's contract opportunities include many "unexpected" fields, including dental, janitorial, landscaping and audio-visual production services.
This month, OSME's outreach includes:
- On March 11, a presentation to trades professionals at the Revelstoke Chamber; and
- On March 12, a seminar for the Kamloops Chamber.
Help small businesses in your community get in on the action through an OSME webinar or seminar by contacting Tess Menges at Tess.Menges@pwgsc-tpsgc.gc.ca or 604-666-5688.
