Reform will save Canadian business $1.2 million per year
New red tape relief for Canadian companies has been announced, with proposed changes that will see 32,000 fewer corporations filing a return under the Corporations Return Act, saving companies an estimated $1.2-million in administrative costs.
"These announcements are part of a concerted effort by the Feds to tackle more than just the 'low hanging fruit' and that making Canadian Business more competitive by removing many of these old, tired and redundant regulations is a major step forward." States Andrew Hopkins, President, New Westminster Chamber of Commerce.
"Improving Canada's competitiveness requires an ambitious aggressive and innovative private sector, and one that is focused on doing what it does best, producing goods and services that enable our domestic product to continue its growth." said John Winter, President & CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce.

Canadians with disabilities are under-represented in the workplace
A new report titled Rethinking disAbility highlights the benefits for businesses of employing people with disabilities. The panel consulted with businesses and organizations, including the Canadian Chamber, last fall and they heard that:
- Hiring people with disabilities makes good business sense.
- There are myths and misconceptions in the business community about the costs and risks associated with hiring people with disabilities.
- In half of the cases, there are no costs to accommodate a person with disabilities, but on average the cost is $500, an investment easily returned by a loyal and engaged employee.
Despite an aging population and a looming labour skills shortage, this significant talent pool is being overlooked. This is good news for employers seeking talent, and for the approximately 795,000 working-aged Canadians who are not working but whose disability does not prevent them from doing so.
