One Book, One Community Splash of Red Photo Contest Youth Winner is Abi Skinner from Detroit Lakes!
 | Abi Skinner
| During the inaugural One Book, One Community read of Lois Lowry's The Giver in October, a Splash of Red Photo Contest was held. The theme for the photo contest was "black and white with a splash of red." There were winners chosen in two categories, youth and adult, and each winner received an Amazon Kindle eReader. The youth category winner was Abi Skinner from Detroit Lakes with her photo entry, "Have You 'Red' It." Congratulations, Abi! Abi's bio: My name is Abi Skinner. I am thirteen and in eighth grade at Detroit Lakes Middle School. My interest in photography began a few years ago when I started using Instagram (an iPod app). I followed a few photographers and was immediately inspired by their work. I began doing photoshoots of my own using a Sony Cybershot DSC-H3. I would set the camera on a timer then quickly pose, hoping that I was actually in the frame. I would then edit the pictures to make me float, have a twin, or even have a different pose in a mirror I was looking in. Along with my photoshoots, I also take photos of nature with my macro setting on the camera. Those pictures seem to turn out more precise and detailed. As I grow older I would like to continue on with photography and learn more skills and tricks. Other than my photography hobby, I also enjoy cross-country running, dance, and reading.
