Aloha!
The season of Lent has arrived, and we are living into the season by enjoying God's beautiful creation. Last Sunday our Parish Lenten Study group met at the church for Evensong, Benediction and dinner. For the Second, Third and Fifth Sundays in Lent, we will meet at Kapi'olani Park (where Paki and Kalakaua meet), enjoying the beautiful springtime breezes. We gather at 5:00 pm to say Evening Prayer in the park, and then we will continue to discuss our Lenten book. It is not too late to join us. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket to place on the ground. I will bring a box of old prayer books and the evening prayer readings. Participants are invited to bring their dinner, picnic style, if they desire. Parking is free along Paki Avenue.
On Sunday, March 10, the Fourth Sunday in Lent, our book discussion group will take a little break since it is Rose Sunday (Mid-Lent). However, everyone is encouraged to attend the Annual American Guild of Organists concert featuring world-renown organist, Nathan Laube, at Central Union Church at 4:00 pm. Do not miss this concert! I am told by the AGO president that it should be a stunning performance. The concert is free, but they do take an offering to support the world of the AGO in our islands.
If you are not interested in organ or church music, then I encourage you to help the Queen Emma Outreach Guild with their Lenten feeding program. On Sunday, March 10 and Wednesday, March 13, they are organizing dinners for Family Promise at Church of the Crossroads. We need people to buy food, cook the meals, deliver the meals, and host the meals. Speak with Theo Matsumoto, Louis Xigogianis or Suzanne Kagawa for more information. As we have been discussing the importance of our baptism on Sunday nights, this is a wonderful way to show that your baptism is producing good fruit for the kingdom.
There are so many ways to renew your faith this Lent. Like the creation at springtime, each one of us has the opportunity to re-energize our devotion to Jesus Christ. Be sure to check out our LENTEN WEBPAGE for more ideas.
Every Friday night at Stations of the Cross, the officiant states, "we adore you O Christ, and we bless you." May each of us find ways to adore and bless our Lord Jesus Christ as we journey forth to Easter.
Blessings to you and your loved ones,
Father Paul+
