Author Event: Cover Story
|
Maine author Brenda Buchanan will talk about and read from her new mystery novel Cover Story at the Library on Saturday November 28 at 3:30 PM. Set Down East in Machias, the novel is about a newspaper reporter who arrives in town to cover a murder trial. After his hard-nosed reporting provokes someone to run him off the road in an isolated area, he realizes his life depends on figuring out not only who committed the murder but also who is stalking him. The book is Buchanan's second in the Joe Gale series, after Quick Pivot, which was about a long-cold missing person case in Portland.
Brenda Buchanan is a former newspaper reporter with deep reverence for local journalism. Her mysteries feature Joe Gale, an old-school reporter with modern media savvy who covers the Maine crime beat. By day, Brenda is a lawyer at the Portland firm of Warren, Currier & Buchanan. A Westbrook resident, she is a former board member of the Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance.
This event is sponsored by the Library. Books will be available for sale and signing. There is no charge, and everyone is welcome. For more information, call the Library at 374-5515.

Art Show: Advent Calendars and Winter Works
|
Brooksville artist Annie Poole will exhibit her artwork at the Library during December, in a show entitled, Advent Calendars and Winter Works. Annie painted the series of seasonal advent calendars, on paper in gouache and colored pencil, for her three children over a period of several years. With these personal works, the artist invites the public to share one family's traditions and a celebration of the holidays and the winter season. Included in the show are a group of oil paintings depicting Annie's views of winter time in Maine.

Advent calendar, Our House in Deep Snow, 22" x30 Gouache on paper
|
Annie Poole has lived in Maine since 1979. About her work Annie says, "I find that life, just inside my tiny corner of it, is quite full and provides endless subject matter and visual and emotional stimulation. Opportunities for creativity exist in almost everything I do and I find that all my pursuits connect and eventually lead to what I do in my studio. I enjoy taking care of my home, spending time with family, cooking, walking my dog, working in the garden, playing music, working in theater, with my art being in the center of it all."
