Sinatra and Bennett: The Great Singers of the American Songbook
|
 The Library will host an "illustrated music lecture" about the great American singers Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett by Michael Paul Lund of Serendipity Recordings on Thursday October 2 at 7:00 PM. Lund will play some recordings from the Columbia and Capitol vaults by these two great balladeers of the American Songbook and America's Tin Pan Alley, and provide commentary and share event posters from their performances in the past.
 Michael Paul Lund has a syndicated newspaper column, entitled The Serendipity Nostalgia Report that focuses on legendary entertainers and great American music. Lund has sung and recorded the American Songbook with the members of the original Tonight Show Band. He was also written pop songs and lyrics for other composers. He regularly writes liner notes for major record companies that re-issue work by legendary performers.
This event is sponsored by the Library, there is no charge, and everyone is welcome. For more information, call the Library at 374-5515.

Fall Children's Programs
|
October is the time when three popular kids' programs start up again at the Library. The weekly Chess Club resumes on Friday, October 3rd, 3:00 to 3:45 PM and is for children ages 7 and up and for all levels of skill. Snacks and chess sets are provided. And on Saturdays starting October 4th, from 10:30 AM to noon, will be LEGO Club for kids 7 to 12 years of age. Kids ages 4 to 6 are also invited but must be accompanied by an adult. Kids can bring their own or use the Library's. Donations of LEGOs would be greatly appreciated. The Library's Reader Dog Program will be also starting up in October, schedule to be announced. The reader dog program allows children to read in a relaxed and nonjudgmental environment so that they may gain self-confidence. Kids will be able to sign up for time slots in person or by calling Pat at 374-5515. The library also has two year-round programs for children:
- Preschool Storytime for kids up to age 5 on Tuesdays at 10:30;
- Play Group for babies and toddlers up to age 3 on Wednesdays at 10:30.
