Events This Week...
  • The public is invited to an opening reception for the January art show, Recent Drawings and Watercolors, by Paul Trowbridge THIS THURSDAY! January 2 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.events The show includes local landscapes, as well as figure drawings from Blue Hill Life Drawing Group sessions.

  • Fiction is half-price at this Saturday's book sale (see below). 
Fiction Half-Price at Book Sale This Saturday
     The Friends of the Library will hold their first-Saturday-of-the-month book sale on January 4 in the Library's basement "book nook" from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.book_sale Featured in this month's sale are lots of cookbooks, and a special collection of train books and magazines. All fiction will be half price!

     The Friends wish to thank the many donors who keep the library supplied with quality book donations.  Book sale proceeds enable the Friends to sponsor many of the special programs offered at the library, and to make special purchases of books, dvds, etc., and equipment for the library. To donate books that are in good condition or for more information, contact the Library at 374-5515.
National Geographic Bee for Homeschoolers
     The Library will be hosting the annual National Geographic Bee for 4th to 8th grade homeschoolers on Tuesday January 7, 1:00 to 2:30 PM.Bee Every year thousands of schools across the country participate in the event, which is sponsored by the National Geographic Society.  The contest is intended to increase public awareness and student interest in geography and to encourage teachers to include the subject in school curricula.
The final contest of the National Geographic Bee is hosted by Alex Trebek. 
     The library's event is free and no reservations are necessary. The winner of the Bee will advance to the next level of competition, a written examination that will determine who will compete at the state level. Ukelele Lessons for Kids
     The Library and Blue Hill Consolidated School will be offering a series of ukulele workshops taught by local musician and teacher Henry Finch on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at the Library for 6 weeks starting January 7.ukelele The classes will be open to kids ages 10 to 14. Kids will learn to play songs on the ukelele and also learn to write songs.

     Henry Finch holds an MFA in Poetry from the Iowa Writers' Workshop. He teaches music and writing throughout Downeast Maine, most recently through the Lake Larsson School of Ukulele in West Brooksville.

      No prior musical experience is necessary. Ukuleles will be provided! Participants only need to bring a pencil/pen and a notebook. The classes are free, thanks to the Friends of the Library and the Blue Hill Consolidated School, but registration is required. Participants may register using the Library's online events calendar. Film: Midnight Run
    The Friends of the Library Film Series continues on Thursday, January 9 at 7:00 PM with Midnight Run (1988), starring Robert De Niro and Charles Groden, directed by Martin Brest.film De Niro plays a bounty hunter who is hired by a bail bondsman to bring an accountant who has skipped bail back to Chicago from Los Angeles.  The FBI and mafia get involved and things get more than a little crazy!

Yoga For Preschoolers
     The Library will be offering a 5 week yoga class for children from 3 to 5 years of age on Thursdays, starting January 16. yogaThe class, taught by Rebecca Rose Tousignant, introduces children to the practice of yoga through stories, games, songs, and creative movement.

      The classes are free, thanks to the Friends of the Library but registration is required. Participants may register using the Library's online events calendar. For more information call Pat at 374-5515.
