Author Event: Susan Conley
Portland author Susan Conley will read from her just-published novel, Paris Was the Place, at the  Library on Thursday, August 22 at 7:00 PM. The book is a love story, a "beautiful portrait of on how much it matters to belong: to a family, to a country, to any one place, and how this belonging can mean the difference in our survival."

Conley's memoir, The Foremost Good Fortune (Knopf 2011), has received a number of distinctions, including excerpts in the New York Times Magazine and the Daily Beast. It was an Oprah Magazine Top Ten Pick of the Month, a Slate Magazine "Book of the Week," a finalist for the Goodreads Choice Award, and it won the Maine Literary Award for Memoir. Her work has also appeared in The Paris Review, The Huffington Post, Ploughshares, The Harvard Review and elsewhere.

Susan Conley is a former faculty member at Emerson, Colby and Simmons Colleges. She currently teaches at the University of Southern Maine's Stonecoast MFA Program, and is currently the Jack Kerouac Visiting Writer at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. She is a co-founder of The Telling Room, a nonprofit creative writing lab in Portland, Maine, where she leads a variety of workshops.

Books will be available for sale and signing. This event is sponsored by the Library and Blue Hill Books. There is no charge, and everyone is welcome. For more information, call the Library at 374-5515.
