Greetings!
What are some of the ways to Celebrate the Season? Visiting, Shopping, Feasting, Decorating, Sharing Ritual. We have it all at The Gathering Inn this season.
Visit the Inn for our Annual Open House on Dec. 1st - Have a tour, share a snack and a chat, and shop in our Gift Nook for diverse items created by local artisans.
Or women, bring a holiday dish and an ornament to swap at our Potluck Dinner on the 12th. We'll share a meal and stories of Holidays past and present.
Attend Jen Baum's deeply relaxing 2-hour Restorative Yoga class on Monday, Dec. 17th.
Or bring your family to the Solstice Spiral Ceremony on Dec. 21 at 7 PM. This is a beautiful, reflective time to sink into the meaning of all that December holds for each of us whether we celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, the Winter Solstice, Yuletide, Kwanzaa, St. Lucia Day, Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Bodhi Day, or just a time of entering the quiet rest of winter to prepare the soil of our souls for the new life of spring.
Merry Yule to you all and Peace on Earth!

MERRY'S MUSINGS

TIME! Here we are, rushing to the end of another year. And the retailers would have us racing into Christmas shopping before the Halloween candy has all been eaten. Where the heck did 2012 go? I just celebrated one year in my new home-one complete cycle of the seasons. Amazing!
Trying to grab hold of time is like trying to catch fireflies in a jar with no top. Or trying to hold the ocean sand between your toes when the waves come in and out. It's just too illusive and it's constantly moving.
I know people always say the older you get the faster time moves and they are so right. I've reached that grand old age where I do just what my mother used to do (and it drove me crazy). I try to call one of my grandchildren by name and have to run down the whole family list before I get it right because I am mixing up the generations and the ages. I often call the 5 & 10 year olds by their 20-year-old cousins' names because in my mind, those 20 years went by in a blink of an eye. Where did they go?

BOOK 2013 RETREATS NOW AT 2012 RATES!

FISCAL CLIFF OR MONEY MOUND? We don't want to fall over either one! The Gathering Inn is aware of the recent rise in the cost of oil, electricity, food, postage, insurance, and more and we just can't absorb these increases, so in January, we will reluctantly be raising our rates for both lodging and meals in 2013.
As our holiday gift to you, if you book a retreat before the end of 2012 (and complete it by March 31, 2013) we will honor this year's rates. Just give us a call, or go on our website (www.gatheringinn.org) and register for the date of your choice in 2013 and we'll hold the 2012 prices for you. If you find you need to change the date later on, we'll work with you to find a more convenient time. We look forward to meeting your retreat needs in 2013.

RED TENT GATHERING

December 16, 1-4PM
A group of about 15 women came together, under the leadership of Johanna Henning and Rosemary Nolan, for our first Red Tent Gathering last month.
We talked about what our particular monthly gatherings might encompass, and watched: "Things We Don't Talk About, Women's Voices from the Red Tent" by Filmmaker, Isadora Gabrielle Leidenfrost, PhD. It was great to see our Yoga Studio and some of you in portions of the film. There was much enthusiasm to continue with a monthly gathering and so we will meet again on December 16th, from 1-4 PM.
Cost: $10 per person. Please pre-register.

Jen will have her annual 2 hour Holiday Restorative Yoga Class on December 17th. This is a class not to be missed!
Participants will practice by the soft glow of tea lights and the relaxing sounds of nature and pipes as they become rejuvenated - mind, body & spirit - for the hectic holiday season.
This is an opportunity to take some well deserved time for yourself, to let the mind empty as you work through a series of Restorative yoga postures, using pillows, bolsters, blankets and eye pillows.
Cost $20. Due to the growing numbers of attendance, please email Jen (jenbaum@verizon.net) and let her know of your intention to attend.

FAMILY WINTER SOLSTICE SPIRAL CEREMONY

December 21 7-9 pm
On the shortest day of the year, Winter Solstice, we celebrate the beginning of the return of the light to our world. Solstice is also an intense time of spiritual birth.
Our yoga space is transformed into a beautiful spiral of pine branches, sea shells, stones, driftwood, pine cones and berries, and candles. We begin in darkness and silence (accompanied by soft flute music.)
Each person has a time to walk contemplatively into the center, light a candle, and reflect on what brings light into their lives and into the world as they spiral back out and set their offering of light into the growing glow of candles. (Everything you need will be provided but feel free to bring your own natural earth elements to offer into the space if you wish.)
Men, women, and children welcome. (To honor everyone's experience, we ask that children be of an appropriate age to respect the silence and solemnity of the event.)
