November 6, 2012

Greetings!

We hope that each of you has "weathered" Storm Sandy with little more than some inconvenience and we pray for those whose lives have been devastated.

Autumn is a season where change and transition are all around us and for the recent storm victims, that is more true than ever.  When we lose our familiar bearings (physically or emotionally), it can be frightening and can shake our very foundations.  What the captains of ships at sea have known for a long time, is that you will stay on course when you find the north star.

The Gathering Inn is here to help you find your spiritual North Star so that your ship can sail through the roughest of seas and still find your way Home.

MERRY'S MUSINGS
Merry ColeLook out! Here comes November.

Everyone seems to have a month of the year where there is a cluster of significant events.  In my life, it's November.

In Novembers past, I have had:

  • A sister-in-law I was very close to died in November 2001.
  • I had a mastectomy for breast cancer in November 2004.
  • The Gathering Inn bought its property and incorporated in November 2007.
  • My Mom died in November 2008.
  • My divorce proceedings began in November 2010.
  • I moved out of my home of 40 plus years in November 2010.
  • My new home was completed and I moved in last November 2011.

And there is more.  So every November, I have much to think about, much to remember that might seem sad.  But what also happens is that every November contains Thanksgiving Day.  A day to celebrate and give thanks for all the blessings of life!  So, how do we give thanks when life throws us curveballs?

RED TENT GATHERING
Red Mandala November 11, 1-4pm

The Red Tent, authored by Anita Diamant, tells the story of the tent in which women take refuge while menstruating or giving birth, and in which they find mutual support and encouragement from their mothers, sisters and aunts.  Since that book was released, Red Tent groups have sprung up world wide.  The Gathering Inn will host a new group that will meet monthly, beginning Sunday, November 11th.

Filmmaker, Isadora Gabrielle Leidenfrost, PhD, created her film:  "Things We Don't Talk About, Women's Voices from the Red Tent".  A portion of that movie was filmed at The Gathering Inn.  We will be offering a screening at our first gathering.

Each Red Tent group has its own "flavor".  Be a part of the inaugural Red Tent Gathering on November 11th, and help shape our Tent.

JEN BAUM'S ANNUAL HOLIDAY YOGA CLASS
Holiday Restorative Yoga Class
December 1
7, 7-9PM

Jen will have her annual 2 hour Holiday Restorative Yoga Class on December 17th. This is a class not to be missed!

Participants will practice by the soft glow of tea lights and the relaxing sounds of nature and pipes as they become rejuvenated - mind, body & spirit - for the hectic holiday season.

This is an opportunity to take some well deserved time for yourself, to let the mind empty as you work through a series of Restorative yoga postures, using pillows, bolsters, blankets and eye pillows.

Cost $20. Due to the growing numbers of attendance, please email Jen (jenbaum@verizon.net) and let her know of your intention to attend.

FAMILY WINTER SOLSTICE SPIRAL CEREMONY

Shell spiral December 21  7-9 pm

On the shortest day of the year, Winter Solstice, we celebrate the beginning of the return of the light to our world.  Solstice is also an intense time of spiritual birth.

Our yoga space is transformed into a beautiful spiral of pine branches, sea shells, stones, driftwood, pine cones and berries, and candles. We begin in darkness and silence (accompanied by soft flute music.)

Each person has a time to walk contemplatively into the center, light a candle, and reflect on what brings light into their lives and into the world as they spiral back out and set their offering of light into the growing glow of candles.  (Everything you need will be provided but feel free to bring your own natural earth elements to offer into the space if you wish.)

Men, women, and children welcome.  (To honor everyone's experience, we ask that children be of an appropriate age to respect the silence and solemnity of the event.)

$10 per person.  Pre-registration required.  Space is limited.
ENERGY HEALING & SELF-CARE FOR WOMEN
Green Meditate January 13, 2013
with Rosemary Nolan

An interactive workshop to demystify the varied energy healing systems of both the East and West; learn tools to deal with the constant attack of stress, to repair the "energetic" self, and enhance emotional and physical wellness.

The Gathering Inn is available for retreat leaders and practitioners to offer their programs.  And of course, don't forget that our primary mission is to provide individual women like YOU a place to retreat from the world, be in stillness and tranquility, and re-connect to your spiritual core.

We can't wait to see you at the Inn!

Sincerely, Gathering Inn Spiral

The Gathering Inn

The Gathering Inn is a place to step out of the busyness and distractions of the world, to be in quiet and stillness, to be a bit pampered, and to reconnect to your spiritual center.
