The Month of May: Bringing More than Just Flowers
Here in the Downtown SB office, we love the month of May - and for one big reason: the Downtown Art & Wine Tour! We're bringing it back this year, with a whole new vibe: LIVE Art! Read more below, but suffice it to say, we're excited to show off local artists at work, some pop-up performances on the street, local and regional wines, abundant food from our fabulous Downtown SB restaurants - even surprise entertainment at the Final Party hosted by The Granada Theatre (1214 State). #DSBLiveArtWine But May brings so much more to Downtown Santa Barbara - think cars, cook-offs and cool bikes! Mark your calendar for the State Street Nationals Blues Cruise Chili Cook Off, on Saturday, May 14 (1-5pm). Eleven restaurants are bringing their best chili to this fiery competition, throwing it down at Santa Barbara Volkswagen, on the corner of Ortega and Chapala streets. Enjoy live music all afternoon! Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids under age 12, with proceeds supporting the Annual Downtown Santa Barbara Holiday Parade. Next up: stay tuned for the State Street Nationals Car Show on Sunday, May 15 (noon to 5pm)!
The area's only Premiere Car Show will feature 300 outstanding vintage and collectible vehicles, more than 15 Vendors and thousands of spectators right on State Street in the heart of beautiful Downtown Santa Barbara. Enjoy live music, local bars, restaurants and shopping throughout the 11 city blocks of vehicle displays.Lastly, the Downtown Host Program is gearing up for another season! We're proud to work with this great group of dedicated and friendly volunteers, ready and happy to answer all those "Where is..." "How do I find..." and "What is a good place for..." questions, each weekend day. From their centrally located Host table at the entrance of Paseo Nuevo (State & De la Guerra), they'll be armed with the Downtown Map & Guide, maps, menus and brochures of Downtown SB venues, and of course, their passion and knowledge of our city. And they won't be swinging solo this year! Thanks to a generous grant from Visit Santa Barbara, you'll also see the awesome and orange MIKE the Bike this summer! This Mobile Information Kiosk Explorer, ridden by the intrepid Chloe, will free-wheel up and down State Street, bringing the answers TO the answer-seekers. Give Chloe a shout when you see her pedaling around on MIKE the Bike - she'll respond with the best feature on this "orange info booth on wheels," the very cool bell!

We are officially bringing the Downtown Art & Wine Tour back in 2016 with a new, re-energized feel. The vision is to bring art to life at our various venues through LIVE art.
This tour offers participants a rare opportunity to leisurely stroll between downtown venues, tasting dishes from our leading restaurants and sampling wines from world-class vintners.
The Downtown LIVE Art & Wine Tour is designed to generate exposure for downtown businesses and provide a fun, social evening for re-discovering downtown's charm. This popular event is a community favorite and is sure to sell-out at 300 people!
The May 26th tour will feature venues north of Carrillo Street, with the final party hosted by the gorgeous Granada Theatre.
Ticket holders are given a map of the tour and then stroll between participating venues along State Street and adjacent blocks (5:30-7:30 pm), enjoying food, tasting wine and viewing art-in-the-making at every location. From 7:30-10:00 pm, the final party brings everyone together for more food, more wine, live music and a silent auction of fabulous gifts, with all proceeds from the event benefiting the new Downtown Public Art Fund.

Non-Profits to Know:
Transition House
Transition House provides innovative and proven solutions to the cycle of poverty-based family homelessness.
Transition House is the only homelessness organization in Santa Barbara that exclusively serves families with children. Approximately 70 percent of homeless families who enter our emergency shelter program succeed in transitioning into permanent housing.
Transition House was founded by a consortium of twelve faith communities, along with the support of local service agencies, in 1984. In the last decade, Transition House has expanded its program offerings by developing a homelessness prevention program and an onsite evening education program aimed at developing employment skills and financial literacy. Onsite parenting classes are also offered.
Transition House's history of community support continues with over 40 service or faith-based organizations and 900 volunteers, including area merchants and businesses, donating their time and talents each year. Santa Barbara's compassion, generosity and commitment to its neighbors will continue to support Transition House's efforts in years to come.
