Medicaid Provider Fee gets Maximum Priority

At an Atlanta panel discussion Tuesday previewing children's health issues for the upcoming General Assembly session, one item stood out.
State Sen. Fran Millar (R-Atlanta) was officially on the panel to highlight ''School Flexibility,'' but he summed up what he sees as the urgency of passing a Medicaid hospital provider fee during the legislative session.
Approving the hospital assessment is "perhaps the most critical thing we have to do,'' Millar said.

Are you ready for Obamacare?

Many saw the 2012 Presidential election as a referendum on the Affordable Care Act, often referred to as Obamacare. The re-election of President Obama makes it unlikely that the act will be repealed, and businesses must be prepared to comply with the ACA. The Supreme Court has upheld the constitutionality of the act, though considerable uncertainty remains for businesses seeking to comply with the law's new requirements.
Most companies have already completed, or are in the process of completing, the open-enrollment period for the health plan offered to their employees for 2013. Some of the major ACA provisions do not go into effect until 2014, and most companies have another year to prepare for compliance.

Purpose/Goal Statement: Healthcare Georgia Foundation's mission is to advance the health of all Georgians and to expand access to affordable, quality healthcare for underserved individuals and communities. In 2012, the Foundation launched a newly revised grantmaking program specifically for providing general operating support and direct services support for the Georgia non-profit community, in response to the changing needs of both the nonprofit health sector and the growth of the Foundation. In 2012, 27 grants were awarded across Georgia totaling $1,189,000. The funding was allocated across two grant cycles (General Operating Support-Cycle 1 and Direct Services Support-Cycle 2) that were released in January and July.

FCC CHAIRMAN GENACHOWSKI ANNOUNCES UP TO $400 MILLION HEALTHCARE CONNECT FUND
TO CREATE & EXPAND TELEMEDICINE NETWORKS, INCREASE ACCESS TO MEDICAL SPECIALISTS
FCC WILL BEGIN ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE HEALTHCARE CONNECT FUND
BEGINNING LATE SUMMER OF 2013
Today, at the Oakland Children's Hospital & Research Center, FCC Chairman Genachowski was joined by the Alameda County Health Care Services Agency, the California Telehealth Network, and the Juvenile Justice Center to announce that up to $400 million in annual funding will be made available to healthcare providers as part of the FCC's new Healthcare Connect Fund. Beginning in 2013, the FCC's new Healthcare Connect Fund will spur the development of broadband networks to support modern telemedicine, which will link urban medical centers to rural clinics or provide instant access to health records.
