Director Accepts Faculty Appointment

Profeta Tim Profeta has accepted a faculty appointment in Duke University's Sanford School of Public Policy. He will hold the title of associate professor of the practice at Sanford in addition to his role as director of Duke's Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions. In this position, he will serve Sanford School initiatives focused on energy and the environment, guest lecture and mentor graduate students.

Journal: Mangroves' Hidden Value

Mangroves are being lost at an alarming rate as their conversion for aquaculture and other uses is profitable. Research suggests, however, that valuing the deep reserves of carbon in mangrove sediments may be the key to their survival. Brian Murray, director for economic analysis at the Nicholas Institute, discusses the current science in the journal Nature Climate Change. 

 

Olander at National Academies Workshop

Lydia Olander, director of the Ecosystem Services Program at the Nicholas Institute, is among the speakers at a two-day Institute of Medicine of the National Academies meeting on "Understanding the Connections Between Coastal Waters and Ocean Ecosystem Services and Human Health." Fall Seminar Series Draws to a Close 

The final speakers in the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions and UPEP Environmental Institution Fall 2012 Seminar Series will present at Duke University in the next month. The series brings leading experts to campus to discuss environmentally focused topics. Lectures run from 10-11:30 a.m. in Duke's Levine Science Research Center, Room A158. Join us:
