Happy Dancer Needs A Home!

DancerDancer is a beautiful, one year old, athletic boxer pointer mix who was barely rescued in time from a local high-kill shelter. In fact, as as was was heading to be put down, one of the animal control officers begged for her to have more time so she was given another week. We rescued her on her last day and rightly so for such a deserving fun dog! She has great energy and loves to play fetch. Dancer will play and run as long as you can through the tennis ball! And she will bring it to you for more. At 46 pounds, Dancer has beautiful chocolate colored fur with white face. Read More »

Survey regarding proposed roundabout and other Dunwoody projects

Note from Audra:   Although it appears to me that this survey was created by a group that has strong opinions on one side of these issues, I wanted to publish the survey in hopes that everyone can provide their opinion whether they agree or disagree with the projects mentioned in the survey.  This survey is for Dunwoody residents only and I wholeheartedly support getting our citizen's opinions.  I agree with some and disagree with others but will keep my opinions to myself!  If you have an opinion....take the survey!

Click here for original Dunwoody Reporter article

By Joe Earle

Dunwoody homeowners and businesses must register their burglar alarms with the city and pay fines after two false alarms under a new ordinance adopted recently by City Council.

The proposal drew sharp criticism from some council members who objected to a provision that police will not respond to an alarm if the owner is delinquent in paying false alarm fines.

Dunwoody police have backed the plan in an effort to reduce the number of false alarms received by the city. Checking false alarms takes police time and resources, officials say.

"We have a lean police staff level," City Councilman Terry Nall said before the council Read More »

DeKalb schools superintendent resigns from post

Click here for original article on FOX News

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (AP) - A spokeswoman for the DeKalb County SchoolDistrict says superintendent Cheryl Atkinson has agreed to resign from her post.

Spokeswoman Lillian Govus says Atkinson and school board members Thursday decided a mutual separation agreement was in the best interest for everyone involved.

Atkinson's resignation will be effective Feb. 8 and a separation agreement requires the district to pay her more than $114,500 over the next five months. The agreement also requires Atkinson to participate in any legal matters related to her tenure as superintendent.

An interim superintendent has not yet been named.

The district was placed on probation through the end of 2013 by an accreditation agency, and a Georgia Board of Education hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 21.

DeKalb School of the Arts' Black History Tour Show

BHT_Poster_12-13In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History honor the events by declaring Black History Month's National Theme as "At the Crossroads of Freedom and Equality: The Emancipation Proclamation and the March on Washington."

Honoring this theme, DeKalb School of the Arts presents its 2013 Black History Tour Show, "Freedom in the Air" on February 15-16, 2013.

The show spans three centuries of change and progress: a black Union soldier offers hope to a family torn apart by slavery; a maid takes a great risk for the chance to see Dr. King give an historic speech; a teacher struggles to show her students why history is important in their lives and gets help from an unlikely source.
