estherESTHER: IT'S TOUGH BEING A WOMAN, BY BETH MOORE

If you've ever felt inadequate, threatened, or pushed into situations that seemed overpowering, this is the Bible study for you. Esther is not a typical book of the Bible in that God's name is not mentioned. However in this 9 week study, one learns about the nature of God and His activity in human history.   Esther relates the dramatic preservation of the Persian Jews in the face of annihilation.  Esther, though a queen, lived as an outsider in a hostile environment and has a message for today's women. Workbooks are $18 with scholarships available upon request.  Esther begins January 17th on Thursdays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in room 258/9 and will be led by Peggy Browne, Delaine Dinsmore and Rachel Nevelos. Please contact Rachel Nevelos at rachelnev@aol.com or 678-964-7151 to register for the class and for childcare.

Nancy Jester's Latest post entitled "The Circle of Trust"

JESTERThe Circle of Trust

Process Versus Results - Accreditation by SACS explored the relationship between AdvancED/SACS accreditation and academic results for children.  DeKalb County School District has been accredited for years - as have other Georgia districts and schools that fail children, as witnessed by the state's low aggregate graduation rates (48th out of 50 states).  My Thoughts on the AdvancED SACS Report pointed out that SACS accreditation teams had been visiting the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) for years, examining DCSD on many "standards and indicators," including the management of financial resources.  Yet, these teams of SACS accreditors failed to find the simple, yet deceptive, accounting practices that I uncovered shortly after coming onto the board. Sons of the American Legion in East Point, Ga. is enlisting area residents to help the organization win a $25,000 The Home Depot gift card by voting daily in January in The Home Depot Foundation's second annual Aprons in Action Facebook contest. Voting begins January 1 and runs through January 31, 2013 www.facebook.com/homedepotfoundation. The organization that receives the most votes during the month will win the $25,000 prize to help fund an organizational or community improvement project, and will have the opportunity to compete for the grand prize of $250,000 at the end of the year-long program.
