Junior Girl Scout Troop 28417 earned their Bronze Award by reconstructing a portion of the Dunwoody Nature Center. To do this, they cleared out a very overgrown area, made the soil richer for plants, made a stone path, and planted a variety of beautiful flowering plants, bulbs and bushes. Together as a troop, they worked approximately 160 hours to accomplish the highest honor a Junior can earn and to make DNC more enjoyable for everyone.

CALLING ALL CHILD ARTISTS!

ORT Atlanta's NextGen board is initiating a fun, creative way to encourage your children to be a part of our amazing non-profit organization which supports global education, while learning the values of charity and giving back.

ORT is holding an art contest for children ages 12 and under. We are looking to create a new line of greeting cards showcasing children's artwork! The four categories we are looking for are: Mazel Tov, Sympathy, Get Well, and General catch-all cards.

We are asking for images to either be drawn on white paper and mailed to our office (2200 Century Parkway, Suite 160 Atlanta, GA 30345), or images (pdfs or jpegs) to be emailed to Atlanta@ortamerica.org. The deadline for submissions is January 15, 2013, so get your crayons, paints, and pens at work now! Winners will be announced January 30, 2013 and will be recognized on the greeting cards themselves.

Plans are well underway for the Spring Stampede 5K Run/Walk and Tot Trot hosted by Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. The race will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 7:30am at Oglethorpe University. Race chairperson Kristen Hall is seeking volunteers and community sponsors. Runners can register for the race online at active.com.
The net proceeds will go to OLA's community outreach programs. These programs involve assisting local nursing homes and shut-ins, as well as meeting counseling and educational needs in the Brookhaven community.

The Dunwoody Senior Baseball Diablos baseball club hosted a Toys for Tots drive at the home of Michelle Kovitch. The idea was that so many of these boys have the great privilege to play in a terrific program through Dunwoody Senior Baseball. They and their families wanted to find a way to give back at this important time of year. The 1st annual drive was a strong success with over 100 unwrapped toys donated.

The Diablos program consists of five travel teams made up of 13U, 14U and 15U players from the area including Dunwoody, Sandy Springs and Brookhaven and whose coaching staff includes former Dunwoody H.S. coach Tom Bass.

The event included Sgt. Calvin Johnson representing the United States Marine Corps. He shared words of encouragement with the boys including the importance of education, following their dreams and giving back to their communities.
