Poor forage sampling technique can cause huge variation in analysis of dry matter, neutral detergent fiber, starch, and crude protein. Good sampling depends on a proven standard operating procedure (SOP), which university sources say should result in a coefficient of variation (CV) below 4%. Once you've got the right sampling SOP, check the process at least once a year.
