Ask The Experts - Miguel and Kenneth

Q:

live off the Gulf Coast in Florida. We have a serious bug problem in the summer months, and those awful Love Bugs hit us late spring and again late summer! Do you guys have anything to help shield my paint from acid damage caused by the bugs and something that will take off the ones that stick?

A: Thanks for the question and absolutely! We have the perfect Enthusiast Grade® solutions for those bothersome bugs - Barrier Reef® Carnauba Wax and Road Trip™ Grime Destroyer. Although we don't have the same Love Bug issue on the West Coast here in Surf City, California, we know all about them from our travels across the Southeast.

First, protect your car's paint and metal by applying our Barrier Reef Carnauba Wax 3-4 times/year - and especially right before each Love Bug season. Barrier Reef lays down a sacrificial coat that protects your paint and metal from the bugs' acid - as well as from a ton of other contaminants.

Second, that acid can etch your paint if the bugs sit around for more than a few hours, so you've got to act fast. Road Trip Grime Destroyer is the strongest bug and tar remover on the market and the ONLY one that can defeat Love Bugs. Road Trip's powerful gel formula adheres to the grime and takes it all off, unlike other watery removers that just run off the side of your car and barely touch the bugs. The result is that Road Trip doesn't just remove the grime, but it also neutralizes the acid. So no matter how many swarms of bugs you run into, there is no better way to protect your exterior from them.

Fun Fact

Buick

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that the oldest American car in production today is Buick? - not Ford.

Buick can be traced back to the 1890s and was producing engines in 1899, while Fords  weren't introduced until 1903.

The King Of Hot Rods: A Legend Is Born

King of Hot RodsThis year we've welcomed into the Surf City Garage family the passionate enthusiasts of the NSRA and the Road Tourians as well as the enthusiast nation from Street Rodder Magazine. So we figured ... what better way to greet our new members than to look back on the legendary car that catalyzed the Hot Rod Revolution.

Of course, we are talking about The King of the Hot Rods, the '32 Ford. While hot rodding was alive and well before the introduction of the '32 Ford (through Ford Model T's and Model A's), it wasn't until Henry Ford debuted his '32 with the legendary Flathead V-8 that hot rodding really hit its stride.

It all started in the 1920s with throngs of teenagers who had one common addiction: the need for speed! Once some good ole' fashioned competition got thrown into the mix, the streets and dried up lake beds all across Southern California were soon flooded with testosterone-driven hot rodders, each out to prove his ride was the fastest.

But after nearly an entire decade of tinkering and tweaking with the early 4-cylinder motors, it was time for a change. And change arrived when Ford unveiled the '32 Ford in an attempt to overtake their biggest competitor, Chevrolet. Still, the '32 Chevy was similarly styled, so why did the '32 Ford become a legend, but not the Chevy?

Many people assume that the Ford was more popular and that more of them were made, but the truth is quite the opposite. In 1932, the Chevrolet model actually outsold the Ford, but what it couldn't do was outlast it, because it was constructed almost entirely of steel. On the other hand, Chevrolet still used a combination of wood and steel to manufacture its bodies. So, as the years progressed, the steel Ford Deuces endured while the wooden Chevy models deteriorated. Couple that durability with a more powerful flathead V-8 and you have a recipe for hot rod supremacy.

Today, the '32 Ford (a.k.a. Deuce) is the gold standard for most street rodders. Whether a traditional rod boasting all the original parts, or a modified version combining modern technology with the styling of yesteryear, these creations prowl the nation coast-to-coast at nearly every event, reminding us all that legends like The King of the Hot Rods never die!

Street Rodder Road Tour

StreetRodderTour

Every day, more and more enthusiasts are switching to Surf City Garage. This year we were honored to be chosen as the official product sponsor of the Street Rodder Road Tour. Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, Street Rodder Magazine is one of the original titles that jump-started the entire street rod industry. Since its beginnings in 1972, it has lived up to its tagline: "The World's Street Rodding Authority."

For 12 years running, Street Rodder Magazine has put together a national tour where one of the leading shops in the country builds a one-of-a-kind street rod. Tour Director Jerry Dixie and hundreds of "Road Tourians" spend the summer criss-crossing the country to attend premier auto events and visit places of interest in hot rod history. These lifelong rodders embody everything Surf City Garage and enthusiasts everywhere stand for, that this is much more than a hobby - it's a true lifestyle.

From one enthusiast to another, we would like to welcome all the Road Tourians - and the entire Street Rodder Magazine faithful - into the Surf City Garage Family.
