Ask The Experts - Miguel and Kenneth

Q:

I noticed a new product at my local Pep Boys called Black Max.I've been using your Beyond Black® Tire Dressing on my tires and black trim and I love it! When should I be using Black Max?

A:   Thanks for the question, James. It's always great to hear from a satisfied enthusiast. If you love Beyond Black, you will absolutely love Black Max.

Black Max is a specially formulated liquid gel that's perfect for all your trim and weatherstripping.   Beyond Black is specially formulated to dress your tires. The products are similar because they both make whatever they're applied to look like new, and they both penetrate the material they're applied to for long-lasting UV protection with no sling. The products are different because they have different applications. Nothing takes a beating like tires and Beyond Black is designed to keep them looking like new longer than any other tire dressing and without attracting dust. The big problem with trim and weatherstripping is not just covering up the fade but actually penetrating the material and restoring it and Black Max's gel-based liquid is specially designed to do just that.

Surf City Garage Wins Over Enthusiasts At The NSRA Western Nationals In Bakersfield, CA

bkf pngIt's not even Memorial Day yet, but in the West, the car show season was in full swing at the NSRA (National Street Rod Association) in Bakersfield, California this past weekend. Earlier this year, we were honored when the NSRA selected Surf City Garage Enthusiast Grade® Detailing Products to be "The Official Detailing Products of the NSRA." Now, we got the first chance of many to meet many of the NSRA members in person. Our street team had a great time mingling and absorbing hot rod history from these lifelong enthusiasts who really represent what the NSRA, the oldest street rod association in the country, is all about.

One thing we found out for sure - these NSRA members sure know their street rods and custom cruisers - and their detailing products. We couldn't have had a better group of people for our 1-on-1 demos and when they saw the results with their own eyes ... well, let's just say that we lost count of how many switched to our Enthusiast Grade products.

In fact, one of the highlights at our booth was the "Dunk-Your-Junk" challenge where enthusiasts simply tossed in a bottle of any other company's car care products into our Chemical Disposer 2000 (aka "trash can") and we replaced it, free of charge, with a true Surf City Garage Enthusiast Grade product.

The Western Nationals was just the start of many great NSRA shows that we'll be attending. Be sure to follow our street team all across the country as we continue spreading the word of Surf City Garage one enthusiast at a time.

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Carnauba Wax

"What exactly is Carnauba wax?" is a question all enthusiasts ask themselves at some point. After several decades of maintaining our own one-of-a-kind collection of automobiles and Americana, and sourcing Carnauba Wax for our Enthusiast Grade® waxes, we've learned more about Carnauba any one person would ever want to know! So here's the real deal on Carnauba wax.

All true natural Carnauba Wax comes from one particular place,  the Brazilian Amazon, and from one particular tree, Copernicia cerifera, the technical name for the Carnauba palm tree. Also known to locals as the "Tree of Life," because carnauba wax is used in so many different products that make for good living, Copernicia cerifera is native to Brazil, growing only in the northeastern rainforests throughout three Brazilian states. Carnauba palms produce the wax in order to lock in moisture and protect the tree from the harsh climate, which includes torrential rainfall, long droughts and extreme heat. Pure 100% Carnauba wax is useless for your car, because it's harder than cement. Using it would be like running a mason brick across your paint and hoping your insurance covers "minor" paint damage.

That's why the wax first has to be collected, refined, and bleached. Depending on the exact process, you end up with different levels of purity or "grades" of Carnauba: T1, T2, and T4. Different manufacturers blend these refined forms with other ingredients to produce what we know as Brazilian Carnauba Wax for automobiles. Here at Surf City Garage, every single one of our Carnauba-containing products uses only the highest possible percentage of the finest pure Brazilian #1 Carnauba Wax, the best wax in the world!

So the next time you spend your day off applying a little TLC to your one true love, ok, maybe your second love, take a minute to remember exactly what you're using, just how far it had to travel and how perfectly it had to be refined and blended, all to keep your ride looking great.

Pick up Barrier Reef Carnauba Wax at your local retailer.

Trendsetters

There will always be those who dare to be different. And no matter how big the automotive industry gets, there's always a place for innovation. Enthusiasts and even everyday consumers crowd auto expositions to see the latest and greatest. Sometimes the innovations come out of the design department of one of Detroit's "Big Three"; other times, they're from a dedicated hobbyist bloodying his knuckles turning wrenches in a dimly lit garage.

Here at Surf City Garage we pride ourselves on creating the best car care products in the world, Surf City Garage Enthusiast Grade® Detailing Products. Every day we're inspired by the incredible innovations represented by the classic cars and memorabilia in our collection. Here's the story of an innovation so important that half the vehicles on the road today owe their existence to it: the "car/truck."

In the mid-1950s, the auto industry was booming: cars were cars and trucks were trucks, and even a 4-year-old could tell them apart at a glance. Cars were designed for comfort and luxury, but a truck was simply a tool - and a mighty uncomfortable one at that. Pick-up trucks came standard with stiff unbearable suspensions, and rock-hard bench seats. Carpet? Now you were talking real luxury in those days.

But automotive designers were looking for the next big thing. In 1957, Ford Motor Company introduced the Ranchero, a crossover vehicle that combined the practicality of a pick-up with the comfort and luxury of a car. The game-changing Ranchero spawned multiple spin-offs from competitors. Just two years after the Ranchero's debut, Chevrolet introduced its ultimately more popular version of a car/truck: the El Camino. It's hard to believe when you look at the vehicles on the road now, but the public was slow to adapt, as is often the case with innovations. Neither of these vehicles achieved the sales their manufacturers had been hoping for, but they achieved something far more important: they forever changed automotive design as we know it.

Today the roads are filled with crossover vehicles, ranging from luxury pick-ups to minivans to hybrid crossovers to sport utility vehicles (SUVs). And for that -and the unprecedented luxury and convenience these vehicles offer - we should all thank the designers of the Ranchero.
