Greetings!
For years I have been intrigued by the symbolism of Christmas. In fact in 2004 my wife Tonya and I were planning our ward Christmas party as the activity committee chairs, when I felt I wanted to share some research I had found on the subject. The information wound up being put into the form of a poem and passed out as a handout after a wonderful gathering of ward friends and neighbors. I have referred often to that poem with my family and other ward members still mention it from time to time. I would like to share that handout with my friends worldwide. The poem is set to the rhythm of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" and its a simple handout about important symbolism. You may find it a poignant reminder of what a Christ-centered Christmas is about. Please download your free printable PDF version called "Christmas Symbols and Santa Clause: Teach the Children" HERE as a small gift from my heart to yours. As I look back on that poem and its symbolism I am reminded of how little I really understood about symbolism until the past year and a half and my introduction to the richness of Jewish symbolism by Amberli Nelson. I have been repeatedly astounded and moved by her understanding, ability to explain it, and how beautifully organized and laid out it is in providing a constant turning of hearts and minds to our Savior Jesus Christ. May this Christmas be a Christ-centered one as we reflect on the many prophecies and promises made to God's covenant people throughout human history. Along the path God has provided sacred symbols, guide-posts to mark the way and lead us back to Him. I hope that you will make the time to read and watch what I feel are inspired and uplifting Christmas materials you can share with all your friends and family. In this very special Christmas email you will find: 1. an original Christmas story, No Wonder She Wept... by Amberli Nelson, 2. a series of the most inspiring online Christmas videos, (scroll to bottom) 3. a previous article Who Were the Shepherds in the Christmas Story? 3. my poem Christmas Symbols and Santa Clause: Teach the Children and 4. a message of inspiration taken from a recent tragedy in the United States. I pray that you too will be deeply emotionally and spiritually moved, as I have been, as I've prepared this Christmas offering for you. May your Christmas be bright with the love of our Lord and Savior, even Jesus Christ who came into the world over 2,000 years ago to save all of us. Rod Meldrum - president The FIRM Foundation |
