OKACAA's Annual Conference will be held in the Embassy Suites Downtown/Medical Center which is located at 741 N. Phillips Ave. in Oklahoma City on Sept. 9-11. There are sessions planned for Head Start, Housing, Weatherization, Community Liaison/Public Relations and Upper Management staff.

Oklahoma Community Action Agencies responded to citizen needs in the wake of record-breaking rainfall that flooded parts of the state. The flooding impacted transit services, forced curtailing some activities and created challenges for employees driving to work.

Two employees of Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group (SOCAG) are among the Certified Community Action Professionals (CCAP) class of 2015. Shaundra Covey, Healthy Living Coordinator, and Holly Grace, ACMI House Program Director, will be recognized for their accomplishment during the national Community Action Partnership Conference in San Francisco in August. Five Oklahomans are being recertified. They are SOCAG Head Start Director Sheila Clark, KI BOIS Community Action Foundation Executive Director R. Carroll Huggins, Associate Director Tom Marlatt, Planning and Development Director Linda Love, and Washita Valley Community Action Council Executive Director Sharlotte Key. The CCAP designation recognizes members of an elite group of accomplished and motivated leaders who are helping low income people change their lives.

United Community Action Program was featured in an Office of Head Start article Celebrating 50 Years of Families as Powerful Partners in one of its communications. Activities highlighted: This summer was the fourth Tend-to-You Day. Some of the activities included volunteering at meals-on-wheels; putting flags on veterans graves for Memorial Day; Salvation Army clothes donations; dancing with Alzheimer patients at the senior day care, food banks, and nursing homes; and serving free meals."
