OKACAA Spring Conference May 12-15

OKACAA's Spring Conference will be held May 12-15 at the Tower Hotel which is located at 3233 NW Expressway in Oklahoma City. The conference includes training for Executive Directors, Human Resources, Head Start, Weatherization, and Management staff.

2015 OKACAA Directory Published

OKACAA has published its 2015 Directory and Performance Report. The 72-page publication provides information on services, key staff, and agency offices for member agencies. It also contains statistical information on services provided by the agencies.

Deep Fork Supports Job Opportunities

with Fingerprinting Services

Deep Fork Community Action Foundation is providing a somewhat non-traditional service - fingerprinting - to support employment opportunities in its service area. The agency staff has been fingerprinting state agency job applicants.

Legislators Read to Head Start Children

Legislators promoted early childhood literacy by reading to children in Head Start centers on April 17. The event was part of the national Week of the Young Child and Head Start's 50th anniversary.

Updated Head Start Fact Sheet Published

Oklahoma's Head Start Programs FAQ has been updated. The data for the annual fact sheet is compiled from Program Information Reports submitted by grantees to the federal government. The report tracks some data over a five-year period.

OWHAC Names Scholarship Recipient

Makayla Teague is the winner for the $1,000 Ted Allen/David Walker Scholarship awarded by the Oklahoma Weatherization and Housing Advisory Council. She is a student at Sallisaw High School and plans to attend the University of Oklahoma. Her mother is Lori Barcenas who is assistant teacher at the Sallisaw Head Start Center. The annual scholarship is named for Ted Allen and David Walker who were both employees of HUD and died in the Murrah Federal Building bombing in Oklahoma City on Apr. 14, 1995.
