Donna Hudson has been recognized by the national Community Action Partnership as the 2014 Sargent Shriver Achievement Award winner for her work with Little Dixie Community Action Agency. Mark Shriver presented the award.

OKACAA Annual Conference Sept. 17-19 | |
OKACAA's Annual Conference is scheduled for Sept.17-19 at the Reed Center in Midwest City. Training tracks are set for Housing, Planning, Financial, Weatherization and Head Start staff.

Weatherization Training Scheduled | |
Retrofit Installer Section I is a 12-hour course that covers basic weatherization installation techniques will be offered during OKACAA's Annual Conference scheduled for Sept. 17-19 at the Reed Center in Midwest City. It also covers requirements of the Department of Energy, Oklahoma Department of Commerce and Standard Work Specifications. This course is required for all weatherization workers. Additional training will be provided this fall at the Oklahoma Weatherization Training Center in Edmond.
Training Schedule
Lead Safety Training is provided by Neil Brown of EnviroHome, Inc. for Lead-Based Paint Inspector, Risk Assessor, Abatement Supervisors, and Abatement Workers at the Oklahoma Weatherization Training Center. A schedule is on the OKACAA website at www.okacaa.org.

An eight minute video is being developed as part of the 50th anniversary of Community Action in Oklahoma. DustBowl Films in Ada is producing the video. Staff of OKACAA member agencies are featured in the video that highlights how Community Action services are helping people and changing lives.

Delta Open House Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Community Action | |
When Delta Community Action Foundation celebrated the anniversary with an open house on July 18, a room in its administrative offices in Lindsay was filled with tabletop displays highlighting different services provided by the agency. But a timeline tracing the history of Head Start stretching the length of one wall illustrated how one program could profoundly impact the lives of so many people. Created with help from the National Head Start Association, the timeline chronicles not only the history of Head Start but also features children who participated in the Delta program. Seven staff members describe how this program impacted their families.

Big Five Awarded Two New Head Start Grants | |
Big Five Community Services has been awarded two new five year Head Start grants. Executive Director Kent Watson announced one grant funds the early childhood programs in 16 northwestern Oklahoma Counties. Early Head Start and Head Start services will be provided in Alfalfa, Beaver, Blaine, Canadian, Cimarron, Custer, Dewey, Ellis, Garfield, Grant, Harper, Kingfisher, Major, Texas, Woods and Woodward counties. The second grant is to provide Head Start services in Hughes and Okfuskee counties. |
Air Force Aids Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group with Food Drive | |
Altus Air Force Base has been hosting the Feds Feed Families food drive. Donated non-perishable food items will be distributed by Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group through the Community Cupboard, a local food pantry. The food drive is a combined effort between the Defense Department, Defense Commissary Agency, the Department of Agriculture, and Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group. More than 1,700 pounds of goods have been donated through the Feds Feed Families campaign. |
