  NEOCAA's Victoria Stewart Earns
Quality Control Inspector Certification

Victoria Stewart is the first Oklahoma Community Action Agency staff member to complete the requirements to be nationally certified as a Quality Control Inspector by the Building Performance Institute. She is the Assessor/Inspector for the Weatherization Assistance Program at Northeast Oklahoma Community Action Agency. The Department of Energy will begin requiring homes improved with the Weatherization Assistance Program funding to be inspected by a Quality Control Inspector beginning next year.

 Community Action Transit Vehicles Provide Rides to Residents After Bridge Closes for Repairs

Five Community Action Agencies mobilized their transit systems to provide rides between Purcell and Lexington after cracks were discovered in the bridge linking the two communities. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation closed the bridge until repairs can be made and is picking up the fare cost for riders.

CAAs Help Establish Primary Care Clinics
in Medically Underserved Areas

A Federally Qualified Health Center has been established in Afton to provide primary care services in underserved areas. Northeast Oklahoma Community Action Agency played a pivotal role in creation of Route 66 Heath Clinic. Little Dixie Community Action Agency and KI BOIS Community Action Foundation have also played key roles in establishing medical clinics in their service areas.

OKACAA Issues 2014 Directory

& Performance Report

Last year, OKACAA member agencies mobilized the resources of more than 4,100 full and part-time employees and over $187 million in federal, state and local funds to help low-income families move toward self-sufficiency. The 2014 Directory & Performance Report lists key agency staff contact information, program office locations and statistical information on services provided.The directory also contains information on Head Start services provided by non-member grantees and tribal programs.

OWHAC Announces Scholarship Recipients

OWHAC LogoThe Oklahoma Weatherization & Housing Advisory Council has selected Greyson Dozier, who is a Weatherford High School senior, as this year's recipient of the $1,000 Ted Allen/David Walker Scholarship. OWHAC also awarded $100 scholarships to five other seniors. They are Laine Weatherford, Tanner Manous and Amaney Jackson, all from Hugo, Ty Mitchell from Stigler, and Nycolle Smith from Lawton.

Legislator Read to Children in
Delta Head Start Center

State Senator Cory Brooks reads the book "My Five Senses" to children in Delta Community Action Foundation's Irving Head Start center in Duncan. State legislators read to about 300 children at eight different locations across Oklahoma during Legislative Read Day on Apr. 11 as part of the national Week of the Young Child.

Congressman Tom Cole Briefed by Big Five on Transit's Role in Economic Development

Congressman  Tom Cole recently toured the Big Five Community Services Ardmore office where he was presented information on how their public transportation program, Southern Oklahoma Rural Transportation-SORTS, is helping economic development  in Ardmore and throughout Southern Oklahoma. Head Start Fact Sheet Issued

OKACAA has published an updated fact sheet on Head Start. The fact sheet contains information on enrollment, funding, medical,  family services, and staff qualifications.

Community Action Month Toolkit Available

On August 20, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Economic Opportunity Act creating a variety of programs -- including Community Action. The national Community Action Partnership has developed a special public awareness campaign toolkit to help agencies highlight their success stories, accomplishments and measurable results.
