OKACAA Issues 2013 Directory & Performance Report | |
Last year, OKACAA member agencies mobilized the resources of more than 4,200 full and part-time employees and over $208 million in federal, state and other funds to help low-income families move toward self-sufficiency. The 2013 Directory and Performance Report contains key agency staff contact information, program offices and statistical information on services provided. The directory also contains information on Head Start and Early Head Start services provided by non-members and tribal programs. Directory |

INCA Community Services 'ACTIVE' in Promoting Nutrition and Fitness Policies | |
Promoting healthier lifestyles for residents of Atoka and Coal counties through grassroots activism is the goal for an INCA Community Services program. A multi-year grant funded by the Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust is helping promote development of policies to promote fitness and good nutrition.

Building Affordable Housing | |
CARD is working with several funding sources and local contractors to meet the needs for affordable housing. The agency has built about 275 houses in Creek, Rogers, Wagoner and Washington counties. Full Story |

May Is Community Action Month Governor Issues Proclamation Toolkit Available | |
Governor Mary Fallin has issued an Executive Department Proclamation that proclaims May 2013 as Community Action Month in Oklahoma. The proclamation notes Community Action Agencies have made essential contributions to individuals and families by providing them with innovative and cost-effective programs to meet their needs including asset development, early childhood, emergency assistance, employment, housing, nutrition, prescription assistance, senior volunteer, transit and weatherization.

The Community Action Partnership has developed the 2013 National Community Action Month Toolkit "Community Action: Catalyst for Excellence - Advocate for Equity" which provides ideas to showcase your sustained effectiveness helping America's low-income people and communities achieve economic security.

New Executive Director at Deep Fork | |
Christie Baldridge is the new Executive Director at Deep Fork Community Action Foundation. Prior to this promotion, she was the Child and Adult Care Food Program Director at Deep Fork. She replaces Jeff Schuman who has moved to a new position in Arkansas as the Executive Director of the White River Area Agency on Aging, Inc. |

OWHAC Announces Scholarship Recipients | |
The Oklahoma Weatherization and Housing Advisory Council has selected Morgan Davis to receive the $1,000 Ted Allen/David Walker Scholarship. Morgan's parents are Shelly and Ron Davis of Stigler. Both parents work for KI BOIS Community Action Foundation. She will attend the University of Arkansas in Fort Smith. Four other applicants will receive $100 scholarships. They are Mikayla Balderas of Tipton whose dad, Michael Balderas, works for Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group; Jodi Pittman of Boswell whose mother, Susan Roberts, works for KI BOIS; August Zaragoza of Spiro whose mother, Christina Lovell, works for KI BOIS Head Start; and Megan Davis who is Morgan's twin sister. |
