Turning Point: Helping Oklahomans Deal with Substance Abuse

Creating positive outcomes is the goal for counselors and case managers treating substance abusers in Turning Point outpatient centers operated by the Community Action Agency of Oklahoma City and Oklahoma/Canadian Counties. Turning Point staff treat an average of 130 "consumers" annually.

KI BOIS is Lead Agency in Effort to
HALT Tobacco Use

KI BOIS Community Action Foundation is the lead agency of a collaborative effort to improve health of Haskell and Latimer county residents by supporting activities to reduce tobacco usage. A state report show tobacco rates have decreased in the two counties.

Community Action Agencies Make
Statewide Economic Impact

Community Action Agencies positively impact Oklahoma's economy. One example is a single mother of three daughters who went from being on welfare to owning a successful child care center by participating in the Individual Development Account matched savings program. The child care center employs 17 people and has more that 100 children enrolled.

Application Available for Bellmon Scholarship

Oklahoma State University is accepting applications for the Bellmon Community Action Scholarship. The $1,500 scholarship is for clients, children of clients and children of employees of Community Action Agencies in Oklahoma. Application deadline is Feb. 1, 2013.

CSBG Training/Technical Resources Center

The CSBG Training/Technical Assistance Resource Center provides an array of information to support Community Action efforts. You can download toolkits, listen to webinars, engage in online dialogue with colleagues, submit requests for training and search a consultant bank for experienced professionals.
