OKACAA Honors Employees and Volunteers at Annual Conference | |
The Oklahoma Association of Community Action Agencies honored volunteers and staff members during its annual conference. Beth Parker from Big Five Community Services received the Guy Davis Leadership Award. Little Dixie Community Action Agency Housing Director Ron Walker was presented the Fred Tucker Memorial Award. Jerri Sanders from INCA Community Services was recognized as Volunteer of the Year. The Ted Allen Memorial Award was presented to INCA Community Services Weatherization Director Dana Trent. Head Start awards were presented to Jessica Scott and Angela Vega, both from Big Five.

The Oklahoma Policy Institute reports the poverty in Oklahoma reached a six-year high in 2011. Citing U.S. Census Bureau, the data reveals more than one in six Oklahomans - and almost one in four children - now live in poverty.
