NEW CERTIFICATE PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT

UNLV Continuing Education constantly looks for opportunities to develop programs to provide training for Southern Nevada's workforce. Two new certificate programs launching this fall address in-demand skills and support growing industries

Job openings for interpreters in Nevada are expected to increase 44 percent in the next ten years. The Legal Interpretation Certificate: Spanish will help provide more court interpreters to ensure language barriers do not become legal barriers for people whose primary language is not English. 





With more than 34,000 fitness centers in the United States, many fitness and wellness professionals need to be competitive in the business world. The Fitness Business Management Certificate will prepare entrepreneurs, owners, or managers to implement successful fitness business strategies.




UNLV Reaches Out Into the Community 
 
If you live near downtown or in Henderson, you have the opportunity to take an academic class for credit from UNLV. Community2Campus has worked with UNLV academic departments to provide more of these classes at off-site locations in the Las Vegas Valley for the Fall 2016 semester. The following classes will be offered at The Center (401 S. Maryland Pkwy.) and the Henderson Multigenerational Center (250 S. Green Valley Pkwy.):

HR Instructor Receives Top Faculty Award

Human resource instructor Gary Cottino has been presented with the top teaching award from the UNLV Division of Educational Outreach. Cottino received the 2016 Division of Educational Outreach Faculty Excellence Award during UNLV's 2016 Academic Achievement Awards Ceremony & Reception on April 20.

DEO Points of Pride
  • Division of Educational Outreach employees were among those recognized at UNLV's 46th Annual Classified Staff Awards Luncheon and Ceremony on June 20. Sharon Altman, division Administrative Assistant IV, and Robin Mackey, Administrative Assistant II in Client and Division Services, were honored for 15 years of service to UNLV. Shannon Farrell, Administrative Assistant IV with Summer Term, received her five-year award. Sandy Settina was among the retirees recognized. She retired as Summer Term office manager September 17, 2015 after nearly 25 years with the university.
  • The OLLI at UNLV board has elected new officers. Mary Pace is president and Karen Harbour is secretary. Elena Cieslak returns as vice president and John Macdonald serves as finance officer again.
  • We welcome several new staff members. Mary Phillips joins Summer Term as Office Manager/Assistant to the Director. Cheresa Taing is DEO Project Specialist, working with Continuing Education, OLLI, and the Public Lands Institute. Toniann DeSousa is the OLLI Program Coordinator. Sageoia Chiles and Timothy Ogburn are student assistants in Continuing Education.
