Important Test Day for Grades 9 - 11
Important Testing Dates
Wednesday, October 16
8:00 am - 12:00 pm

Freshmen will be taking the EXPLORE Test. These test scores provide early indicators to see if students are on track for college. With plenty of time before students graduate, teachers, parents and students can use this information to focus on areas of need. The EXPLORE test will help your student build high school course plans that will prepare them for college and introduce career options that are relevant to them. Students can check out sample tests questions at www.explorestudent.org.

Sophomores will be taking the PLAN Test. This test is an important step toward making college a reality. It helps you and your student identify:

  • Skills and knowledge they need to succeed in college
  • Areas where they need extra help or additional courses
  • Career areas that match their interests

The PLAN test also provides an estimated ACT score that is one of the best indicators of readiness for college. PLAN connects your student to more information about college and financial aid choices. Students can check out sample test questions at www.planstudent.org. In addition, they can check out the ACT career planning and test preparations at www.actstudent.org.

Juniors will be taking the PSAT. This is a comprehensive assessment program that measures college readiness and provides students with the tools they need to start planning for the future. In addition, it is used in the following ways:

  • PSAT is used by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation as an initial screen of entrants in its annual competitions for recognition and college scholarships.
  • PSAT supports college and career planning: "My College Quick Start" is a personalized online college and career planning kit that helps students search for colleges, explore majors and careers, review your previous test performance and provides a personalized SAT study plan.
  • PSAT prepares students for the SAT.
  • PSAT provides entry into many other scholarship programs.

For free test practice questions and to sign up for "My College Quick Start" go to www.sat.collegeboard.com/practice.

Note: There is no make-up opportunity for these tests, so it's important for your student to be present and on time this day.
