Calendar Change: No School January 31

Recently our faculty and staff were invited to participate in additional bullying prevention training. This is a tremendous opportunity and something we believe will benefit our entire school community.

Because of this, there will be no school for students on Thursday, January 31, in addition to Friday, February 1 (as originally scheduled for professional development). Thanks for your support as we help make SCS an even safer place for all!

Senior Athlete Night & BBQ Dinner
Friday, January 11

All senior athletes will be honored during half-time of the varsity boys basketball game vs. Lakeside Christian on January 11th, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at SCS.

A BBQ sandwich dinner will be served from 5:00-7:30 p.m. Adult dinners cost $6.50 and children 10 and under cost $5.00.

Stephanie Lee Update

Please join us in praying for our third grade teacher, Stephanie Lee, and her family. Our hearts are heavy with her recent diagnosis of two unrelated rapid growth, unrelenting and rare cancers.

Mrs. Lee is now receiving palliative care, and her loved ones are committed to surrounding her with love and comfort, and giving her the opportunity to "continue to demonstrate her great faith, her unending love and her incredible strength."

Sarasota Christian School has counselors available for students, faculty and staff, or others desiring further conversation. For updates on Mrs. Lee's progress, please visit her Caring Bridge website. If you would like to provide a meal for the Lee family, you can visit the Meal Train website.

Let the pastors of your middle and high school students know to save the date for the upcoming Sarasota Christian School Pastors' Day. Students will be given an opportunity to provide us with their pastor's name and we will send an invitation to them soon.

Pastors are invited to visit our campus on Thursday, January 24 for special program and time with students. Contact Dawn Graber at 941-371-6481, ext. 262 for additional information.

Invite your friends to Open House to see all the great opportunities SCS has to offer. Open House is for all prospective families Pre-K through 12th grade.

Open House is also a great opportunity for current 5th and 8th grade students to meet teachers and tour the middle or high school.

Re-enroll By Jan. 30

Re-Enrollment is open and you can stop by the admissions office at anytime to re-enroll and ensure your child's place at SCS for the 2013-14 school year. Please bring your enrollment packet with you when you come.

We will also have staff available in the Media Center at the following times.

REMINDER: There is no scheduled tuition payment in January to allow for re-enrollment fees. The enrollment fee of $500 per student has been discounted to $400 per student for returning SCS families who re-enroll by January 30.

Welcome New Director of Business Affairs, Larry Litwiller

Mr. Litwiller earned a bachelor's degree from Eastern Mennonite University, and has completed postgraduate studies in religion. His experience in accounting and finance includes roles in manufacturing, public accounting, mutual insurance and overseas relief and development work. He and his wife, Nelda, are the parents of SCS students Nicole (10th) and Jordan (7th). Mr. Litwiller will be filling the position currently held by Elaine Kennell who is retiring this month. We greatly appreciate Mrs. Kennell's many years of service to SCS and wish her the best.

Credit Lunch Orders For Jan 31

If you ordered a lunch for your child on January 31st, you will receive a credit. Elementary teachers will place the credit slip in your child's agenda book. Middle School students will receive credit slips from their homeroom teacher. Please attach your credit slip to the lunch order form when you use it. Thank you, Mrs. Shine.

Class Rings & Graduation Announcements

A Herff Jones representative will be on campus in January to offer SCS class rings to sophomores and graduation announcement packages to seniors for purchase. The ring catalogs and samples will be available during class meetings for sophomores on Wednesday, January 16. Orders will be delivered during lunch on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

Senior families, please visit www.gradproinc.com to view graduation announcement packages available for purchase during school lunch on Jan. 16. Seniors will receive catalogs prior to this date. These announcements are optional.
