Greetings!,

After the Business in the Arts Awards festivities are finished and the details wrapped up and put away for another year, the summer's arts' riches stretch out before us. Traditional offerings include summer theatre, music festivals and arts and crafts fairs. Some take place in established indoor venues and others in outdoor spaces. Wherever you live or your NH travels take you, there is something for your cultural enjoyment. Check out our links to events in this newsletter.

Whether a traditional show or a newly created music festival or a pop up arts market, these happenings are a valued part of an already culturally diverse experience the rest of the year. All year long we reap the benefits of local creative economy efforts that work to promote the rich artistic and cultural life that we celebrate and enjoy.

The NHBCA was founded on the belief that art is of economic benefit as well as of enhancing quality of life and it has been gratifying to work with many of the creative communities' efforts in the state. Soon survey results from Americans for the Arts - both statewide and five area participants - will be released that will underscore that point.

The mission of the NHBCA is to educate, motivate and recognize business support of and in the arts. Your support of the arts allows us to encourage the diversity of the arts and the richness of the state's culture all year long.

Sessions will begin with five-minute presentations, with questions from attendees making up the balance of the content.

How the Arts Prevailed
Connie Rosemont, president, NH Citizens for the Arts

This spring, the NH House resoundingly turned back two efforts that would have turned New Hampshire into one of the most art-unfriendly states in the union.

One bill, HB 1285, would have repealed the Percent for Art (State Art Fund) program - which sets aside money in major state construction projects for artwork in state-owned buildings. By a vote of 210-76 it was sent to interim study. The other bill, HB 1274, as originally written, would have eliminated the Department of Cultural Resources. All of that language was stripped away at the committee level and the wholly revised version passed 253-40.

DID YOU KNOW?...

Incorporation Guide

In 1989 in response to numerous requests for information relating to the forming of nonprofit arts organizations, the NHBCA's member law firms created "Incorporation and Tax Exemption for New Hampshire Arts and Other Non-Profit Organizations: An Introductory Guide. It was recently revised by the law firm of Devine Millimet & Branch with significant contributions by Jon B. Sparkman, Jason E. Cole and Justin T. Vartanian.
