Meet Beatriz Torres

When Beatriz was 13 months old, she was diagnosed with Wilms' tumor, a rare kidney cancer that makes up about 6 percent of all childhood cancers. After Valley Children's pediatric surgeons removed the mass, she began a comprehensive, five-month treatment plan of chemotherapy and radiation to kill any remaining cancerous tumor cells. Today, Beatriz is a thriving little girl enjoying life in Modesto.
Volunteer Advocates for Legacies of Healing

When Sally began volunteering at the Hospital, she had no idea the experience would impact her life in the ways it has. Eighteen years later, and with hundreds of precious moments she'll never forget, Sally has become a key member of our Spiritual Care Services Team. Thursdays from 10:00am-1:00pm, you can find Sally in our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) or Oncology Wing comforting families, patients, and staff. Every week and every family visit is different. As a Volunteer Chaplain Aide, Sally can provide peace and hope when our families, patients, and staff need it most.

In 2011, it was on Sally's heart to become a Legacies of Healing Society member and include Valley Children's in her estate plan. Earlier this year, after a luncheon with fellow members and an update from President and CEO Todd Suntrapak, Sally felt an overwhelming urge to advocate on behalf of Valley Children's Hospital. In July, she made a presentation to over 100 community members at her church, and afterward had 20 guests ask her for a tour of the Hospital. Sally will be leading a tour and lunch in September and hopes to get more people connected to our mission.

"I think people just need to know how to get involved and they will. There are so many needs at the Hospital, and I think it's my gift to be able to help people connect. If even one person becomes a Legacies of Healing Society member or decides to make a donation because of something I shared, I'll know I did my job," said Sally.
Legacies of Healing
Establish Your Legacy As One Who Stood for Kids

This past spring, several members of the Legacies of Healing Society gathered for lunch and an update on Valley Children's Healthcare from President and CEO Todd Suntrapak. The Legacies of Healing Society consists of generous people in our community who have committed to invest in the health of future generations by making provisions for Valley Children's in their estate plans. During the lunch, several members shared why they have chosen to join the Legacies of Healing Society. Watch the video to hear some of their stories. For more information, please contact the Foundation at (559) 353-7100.
First 5 Tulare County Invests in Valley Children's in Visalia

Earlier this year, Valley Children's Healthcare opened the Akers Specialty Care Center in Visalia. The facility is off to a great start, providing specialty care in cardiology, ENT, gastrointestinal, and maternal fetal medicine to over 450 patients in the first few months. First 5 Tulare County recently approved a generous grant of over $65,000 assist in the purchase of capital equipment needed for the facility. As Valley Children's seeks to bring care closer to home for kids in Tulare County, we are excited about our renewed partnership with First 5 Tulare County. Our sincere gratitude to First 5 Tulare County and its leadership for their support.

Our Thanks to Irene Boyajian

We would like to thank Ms. Irene Boyajian for her generous gift of $50,000 to Valley Children's Hospital. Ms. Boyajian is originally from Fresno but spent the past several decades living in New York. After recently returning to the Fresno area, she contacted the Foundation to ask about investing in the extraordinary work of the Valley Children's clinical team. Thank you, Irene, for your kindness toward the children we serve.
Derek Carr Touchdown Challenge

We invite you to consider joining the Derek Carr Touchdown Challenge. The premise is simple for this exclusive club: for every touchdown pass Derek throws in the upcoming 2016-17 season (plus any QB rushing TDs), participants will donate $100 to Valley Children's Healthcare. At the completion of the season, participants make a single donation for the total number of touchdowns scored.

In appreciation for participating in the inaugural Touchdown Challenge, club members will receive an autographed photo of Derek and an invitation to attend a special reception with Derek in 2017. Participants will also be acknowledged in a weekly "Touchdown Count" post on the Foundation's Facebook page recognizing Derek's performance in the game as well as our generous Touchdown Challenge club members' names.

If you are interested in joining Derek for the Touchdown Challenge, or have any questions, please contact the Foundation department at 559.353.7100, or by email at  [email protected].
