Be a Champion for Childrens

Giving & Hospital E-News
Children's Hospital Central California Foundation
February 2013
Greetings!

Growers in the fertile San Joaquin Valley understand there's a time to sow and a time to reap. They know a bountiful harvest depends on more than winter rains and summer sunshine. Every agricultural commodity harvested late in the year represents many months of hard work invested at the start of the growing season.

Our volunteers and Foundation team continue to plant new programs as we begin another "growing season."

Just as the tireless efforts of our Valley's growers bring the promise of a healthy crop, the Foundation's commitment to nurture healthy relationships with donors like you helps seed and grow vital programs at Children's.

We value partnerships we've formed with donors like Norman Jansen, who recently made a "lifetime" contribution to our Childhood Cancer Survivorship Endowment Fund.  Gifts like Norman's benefit patients like Lauren Garrison, the 2013 Kids Day Ambassador. Learn about them both in this month's edition.

We encourage you to continue the long tradition of investing in Children's Hospital. Together we will secure healthier lives for thousands of children.

Sincerely,

We are striving to make this year better than ever, but to do that we need your help! Have you ever been excited about something and given a "high-five" to show it?  Why not carry that excitement into Kids Day? So let's all give $5s on Kids Day March 5!  Let's show our excitement through $5 donations.

Newspapers are still $1, but we invite you to join us in giving $5 on the 5th and help us make this Kids Day five times better than ever before!

Advances in treating childhood cancer over the past 40 years have led to significantly improved cure rates.

Today more than 80 percent of children recover from their disease. Childhood cancer survivor Lauren Garrison and hundreds of other survivors are benefitting from the services offered by the Childhood Cancer Survivorship Program at Children's Hospital.

Cancer Survivorship Program Gifted $250,000

In memory of Vivian E. Jansen

The Children's Hospital Childhood Cancer Survivorship Program

received a $250,000 boost thanks to a gift from Norman D. Jansen in memory of his wife, Vivian E. Jansen.

Jansen's caregiver encouraged him to support Children's after her son experienced excellent care at the Hospital.

Jansen said his gift to the program suitably honors the memory of his late wife, who passed away from cancer.

"This is a wonderful cause," said Jansen. "My wife would have wanted it and this honors her memory. To survive cancer is heroic. Anything we can do to help these kids have a better life, I'm thrilled to be a part of."

Legacies of Healing

Plan ahead and leave a legacy

Including Children's Hospital in your will and estate plan is easy.
  • In 2012, we received $2.7 million from people who included Children's in their estate plan.
  • Donors often receive current benefits from planned gifts.  See how a charitable gift annuity or other charitable trust might benefit you and the kids.

About the Foundation

We believe deeply in the power of philanthropy to save children's lives. When you donate to Children's, your investment is helping to fund life-saving technology, advance clinical services, provide a safety net for children with little or no private medical insurance, and create a healing environment that enriches the experience of our patients and their families.
