Greetings!
The New Year comes with plans and goals, and it's no different for us at Children's Hospital Central California.
Last year we saw tremendous growth in our Maternal Fetal Center. By 2014 we plan to expand our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Saint Agnes Medical Center. This expansion will allow at risk babies to stay with their mothers after they are born.
In the story below, you will learn more about that initiative and the generous donors who are helping us establish this program for future generations.
Years come and go, but many of our patients remain with us for extended periods of time. Read Amanda Sheffield's story to learn how she grew up experiencing our compassionate care and developed a lasting bond with her cardiologist.
We hope that Children's Hospital continues to be a part of your philanthropy in the New Year. May you and those you love enjoy a prosperous and successful 2013.
Sincerely,

Jim Miller

NICU Expanding Care
Exceeding expectations
In 2010, Children's Hospital and Saint Agnes created the Maternal Fetal Center to ensure the safety of the most vulnerable pregnant mothers and unborn babies.
Since then, the Center has cared for almost 6,000 moms - almost double the number expected.
Expanding Children's NICU at Saint Agnes will:
Provide more advanced technologies, equipment and medical expertise to premature and/or ill newborns
Enable more babies to stay at Saint Agnes until their moms are discharged or the babies can go home
Double the number of ill neonates we treat each year at Saint Agnes by 2016
Expand access to services for Valley residents
A special thank you to Wells Fargo Foundation who donated $75,000 and the McGowan family who pledged $50,000 in support of this project. Read more...
"I had to stay in the hospital for eight days while the twins were at Children's," the McGowan's daughter-in-law, Katie McGowan said. "Keeping them with me would've been nice." |

Our 2012 School Challenge winners were:
College Program: Fresno State
High School: Golden West, Visalia
Jr. High: St. Joachim, Madera

Twenty-one years of care
At age 21, Amanda Sheffield was expected to transition to adult medicine, but the lifelong patient of Dr. James Prochazka, medical director, pediatric cardiology didn't want to say goodbye.

About the Foundation
We believe deeply in the power of philanthropy to save children's lives. When you donate to Children's, your investment is helping to fund life-saving technology, advance clinical services, provide a safety net for children with little or no private medical insurance, and create a healing environment that enriches the experience of our patients and their families.

Thank you!
