Greetings!
As we hear about taxes, closing loopholes and limiting deductions, we can't help but wonder what the future holds.
In these uncertain times, the families and children who will be with us over the holidays are also anxious about their futures. I ask you to think of how your donation can help save a life - like in the story you will read about, Brooklyn Lopes, the medically fragile infant born to a second-generation Guild member.
If you have been blessed like I have, think of how you can improve a little boy's quality of life - like in the story that follows of Carson Genter, whose brain surgery resulted in a welcome surprise.
Yes, we do enjoy the benefits of tax deductions, but year-end giving is so much more than that. It helps children and families who wonder what their future holds. They hope to survive and thrive and have a lifetime of years ahead.
Enjoy this holiday season. As you do so, please consider a special year-end gift to benefit our ill and injured children. I wish the very best to you and those you love in the New Year.
Sincerely,

Jim Miller
Vice President Foundation
and Chief Development Officer

Helping & Healing
A Pattern of Giving Back
As Children's Hospital celebrates our 60th anniversary, we're seeing a pattern within the generations of families who have built a history with us.
A young mother who wondered as a child why her mother worked so hard to raise money for the Hospital now has children of her own wondering the same about her. These mothers - like our five founding mothers - follow a pattern of giving back. Read their story in the Guild's Helping & Healing article, "Guild Members Give Back." |

Carson's Gift
Children's Hospital treats a little boy in need of brain surgery
Shopping for gifts and baking sugar cookies keeps many families on their toes during the month of December. But in the final weeks of 2008, Carson Genter lay flat on his back at Children's Hospital.
A 6-year-old at the time, Carson had contracted the H1N1 virus and it had progressed into pneumonia. "He spent about a week in the Hospital," said Carson's mother, Nicole Genter.
He recovered completely and was discharged, but a short time later Carson began passing out. Genter contacted her son's primary care physician to learn why. |

Giving in Perpetuity What is an Endowment
Like planting a living Christmas tree outside after the holidays, contributing to an endowment assures your investment will live long after the gift is given.
By holding the principal in perpetuity, endowments provide a solid base of continuous revenue. Each year these special funds distribute earnings to various programs at Children's Hospital.
As an evergreen never drops its leaves, an endowment fund is always there and generates a constant source of funding through earnings.
Explore how you can establish an endowed fund and enhance the specialized care provided by Central California's only children's hospital for generations to come. |

About the Foundation
We believe deeply in the power of philanthropy to save children's lives. When you donate to Children's, your investment is helping to fund life-saving technology, advance clinical services, provide a safety net for children with little or no private medical insurance, and create a healing environment that enriches the experience of our patients and their families.

Thank you!
