Young Writers Contest
Entry Deadline is Monday, March 14
All Divisions
This year Huntsville Literary Association begins its 48th annual Young Writers Contest for the students of the Huntsville, Madison, and Madison County public, private and home schools. To assist in your planning, we are providing the calendar below above to facilitate the scheduling of Young Writer assignments into your classroom studies. Please note the earlier deadline this year.
Elementary, Junior, and Senior Divisions - All divisions are aligned with the grade levels of the Huntsville, Madison, and Madison County schools. HLA recognizes the winners in the Elementary, Junior and Senior Divisions in a number of ways. All winners, including honorable mentions, receive recognition at the awards ceremony; the First Place winners are asked to read aloud their poems or short stories. First through Third Place winning entries are published in the Huntsville Literary Association's Young Writers Booklet given to all those attending the awards ceremony. Huntsville Eastern League Sports Registration
|
Registration for Baseball, Softball and Soccer is open and ready for you to begin registering your child.
Please go to Huntsville Eastern League
to sign up! Also, there will be Huntsville Eastern League representatives available to assist you (should you need it) at Goldsmith Schiffman Elementary on 20 FEB, 27 FEB and 5 MAR from 9-10AM. Softball and Baseball are $100 per player and Soccer is $40 per player.
Something new for this year is that we will no longer offer Developmental T-Ball. However, we will allow some 4 yr old children to play T-ball. To play Baseball T-Ball, you must turn 4 on or before 1 MAY 2016. To play Softball T-ball, you must turn 4 on or before 1 MAR 2016. If any of you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact our Sports Directors or any Board Member for clarification. If your child is 4yrs old, they will be placed on a waiting list during registration so we can evaluate your child's birth date. Once we do so, you will be contacted with the approval/disapproval and instructions on how to complete the registration process. And just so it is clear, if your 4yr old does have the appropriate birth date, they will be playing with kids that are 5 or 6 yrs old as there will not be an exclusively 4yr old league.
New option for Majors. This year, we will be offering a 50/70 option for boys that are 11-13yrs old. If you wish to play in this league you have two options. You can play 50/70 ONLY, or if your child is 11 or 12yrs old, you can sign up for both! We really do encourage all boys 11-13 to play in the 50/70 league as this will give that age group a chance to play with some more traditional "real baseball" rules (lead offs, etc) along with increasing the safety of the players by moving the pitcher back to 50ft. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact us so we can point you in the right direction! We are very excited about this new offering and hope you will consider being a part of this division!
