PTA President

Happy Holidays! I hope everyone had a terrific Thanksgiving and is ready for this last couple weeks of the first semester. Please make note of the events and celebrations that our school and PTA has planned for December in the Calendar just below - it will be a fun and busy time for all!
We had a fantastic turnout for our Veteran's Day Program and PTA Meeting in November. As it's been for four years now - this was a touching program as we celebrated our veterans on this special day. Thanks to HCMS 8th grade student Miss Emily Schoener for assisting with the A/V equipment for the program. As many of you know - this assistance is worth 1000 thanks! Also, thank you to HCES Music teacher Ms. Vineke Richardson for her work with our students. The children did a wonderful job with their songs. Finally, thanks to Debbie Barrie for her assistance with the video of photos, and to Colonel Andrew D. Gignilliat for his key note speech.
Thanks to all that participated in the survey that our PTA sent out to families and faculty recently. We received 69 responses! A drawing for the participation prizes will be held next week, and the winners will be announced in the December mid-month Announcements. Please know that your responses were anonymous, and we appreciate your candidness in the responses and comments, as that information will help us serve your students and families better in the future. National PTA recently provided us with a roadmap towards becoming a National PTA School of Excellence.
As we finish up our first semester at HCES, I'd like to thank all of our fantastic volunteers that have dedicated countless hours to helping HCES, our faculty and students be the best that we can be. A special Thank You this month goes to Karen Whitaker, Alison Hynes, Sonia Enfinger, Julie Kutemeyer and for all of their work to get our holiday decorations up at school. Please visit our trees in the school lobby, cafe, and library - they look gorgeous thanks this decorating team. Another Thank You goes to all of our 2015-2016 Community Partners, Melanie Clark (Vanessa Colebaugh and Britanny Dunscombe for HCMS and GSES) for all of their work on the 2015-2016 Community Partners campaign! The HCES PTA earned just over $18K through this program this school year.
We hope that you'll consider selecting Hampton Cove Elementary School through "Amazon Smile" for your holiday purchases! HCMS is also participating in this program, as are many non profit organizations. Simply choose "Hampton Cove Elementary PTA" when you are shopping with Amazon, and .5% of your purchase will be donated back to HCES PTA. Our school will receive quarterly deposits from these Amazon purchases.
If there are any questions about the HCES PTA, please contact me, or any member of our PTA Board.
Sincerely,
|

Principal's Letter

Happy Holidays Hampton Cove Families,
I trust you enjoyed special time with your family over our recent break. It was great returning to smiling faces and children so eager to learn. December is such a fun, yet fast-paced month. Teachers and students will spend these last three weeks digging into the remaining standards for the quarter and completing the semester with a celebration.
We have many special activities in store for your children this month. Beginning December 7th our library will host a holiday book fair. The book fair will continue through December 9th. This is an opportunity to find a special book for your child or possibly a family member. December 10th begins our quarterly benchmark assessment - Schoolnet. Students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade will take one reading and one math assessment. The testing window will end on December 16th. We encourage you to schedule doctor appointments after school during this window of time.
Our Mistletoe Market, hosted by PTA, kicks off on December 15th and will end on December 18th. Each class will have an opportunity to visit the market to purchase economical gifts for friends and family. On December 17th all students will attend "The Grinch" performed by our very own middle school students. We are looking forward to this special event. Finally, each class will celebrate the holidays on Friday, December 19th. Prekindergarten through second grade will participate in class parties from 12:30-1:30. Upper grades will celebrate between 1:00 and 2:00. We hope you are able to join us during this time.
As the year 2015 comes to a close, we celebrate our successes and look for opportunities to enrich our learning in the New Year. I wish your family a safe holiday, new memories, and relaxation. I look forward to each students return in January.
Happy Holidays,
Autumn H. Bray - Principal

Mistletoe Market
Tuesday - Friday
December 15 - 18, 2015
Everyone loves the annual HCES PTA Mistletoe Market! The HCES PTA will again be offering a place for your children to come and buy holiday presents for family and friends.
Individual class shopping times will be set and sent home by Room Parents via email.
Be sure to check your child's Wednesday folder next week (12/9) for a special envelope they can use to plan who they need to buy for, and how much to spend on each person on their list. You can send in cash in that sealed envelope for the child to bring to their Mistletoe Market shopping time. We will also be able to take credit card payments this year, or there is an option to prepay online and get a cash voucher for the child to use. Parents are welcome to come in and shop with their children during their individual class time slot.
This market cannot happen without volunteer help! Sign up HERE: Please consider signing up for one or two time slots, and join in on the fun!
Contact Toni Wessells if you have any questions about Mistletoe Market.
