President's Letter |

Debbie Tetrault,
PTA President
|
Last Saturday, we had our annual Fall Festival at HCES. It was great to see everyone there - especially as families, but also as volunteers, vendors and community partners. It takes a lot of people to make this a successful event, and I'd like to extend a special THANK YOU to Fall Festival Chairperson Megan Dake, VP of Fundraising and Sales and Silent Auction Chairperson Callie Beevers, and the entire Fall Festival team for all of their efforts. Also, I'd like to thank HCMS for getting the word out to our middle school students, so they had the opportunity to earn volunteer hours by working at the event.
Next week on Tuesday, November 10 at 6:00 pm, we will have one of our four monthly evening PTA meetings of the school year - our Veteran's Day Program. We'll provide a short PTA update, so the majority of the program can focus on our veterans, students' performances, and celebration of the deployed. There will also be a keynote speaker. All students and families are encouraged to attend this event!
HCES and HCMS will pursue the National PTA School of Excellence award during the remainder of this school year. The first step in that process is to survey Principal Autumn Bray, as well as our PTA family. Please be on the lookout soon for that email and link to the survey. After that, National PTA will provide the HCES PTA with a roadmap towards achieving certification. It's our belief that we are doing many of the things that make an excellent PTA, with some adjustments to our events and processes. As part of this, our PTA needs to select one of three PTA Family- Partnership areas (family engagement, health and safety, arts in education) to focus on this year, and we will determine that after our surveys are completed.
We had great participation from our students for the National PTA Reflections program this year! We received 65 HCES student entries across the six Reflections arts categories. HCES judging will occur soon. From there, top entries will proceed on to the Huntsville city judging.
As you consider your holiday purchases and if you are making a purchase through Amazon - please choose Hampton Cove Elementary School through Amazon Smile, and .5% of all purchases with the HCES connection will be deposited in the HCES PTA bank account each quarter. HCMS and GSES are also participating in this program.
Sincerely,
|

Principal's Letter
|
Greetings Hampton Cove Families,
October was a month full of activity! Teachers and students alike kicked off the second nine weeks with a high-energy math pep rally. Each grade level performed a cheer as we celebrated our love for math. Students also took their quarterly benchmark assessments in reading and math and did an outstanding job, some of the top scores in the district. Red Ribbon week was another exciting event. Students had a great time showing their school spirit and standing up against drugs. We thank Ms. Belvitt, our school counselor, for organizing Red Ribbon week. Finally, I hope you were able to join us for Fall Festival on October 31st. Thank you to everyone involved, especially Fall Festival Chair - Meg Dake, for pulling off such a wonderful event.
October also brought three new members to the Hampton Cove Family. Please welcome Ms. Carrie Blount, Instructional Partner, Ms. Joni Christensen, clerical aide, and Ms. Nicole McCormick, In-House Learning Center aide to HCES. Ms. Blount joins our team with a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and nine years of teaching experience, seven in the Huntsville City School district. She brings rich content knowledge, enthusiasm, and a love for learning. Ms. Christensen will support in the office and Ms. McCormick will support in classrooms. We are very excited all individuals are part of our team!
This month, we continue to celebrate as we honor our Veterans and active military at our Annual Veteran's Day Program. Please join us for this special event on Tuesday, November 10th at 6:00 pm. Our entire student body is invited to participate as our music teacher, Ms. Vineke Richardson, leads the students with patriotic songs. There will be no school on Wednesday, November 11.
November also reminds us of the many things we are thankful for as we celebrate family and Thanksgiving. We invite family members and friends to attend a special lunch with our prekindergarten through second grade students on Friday, November 20th. The following week there will be no school (Monday, November 23- Friday, November 27) for students or teachers. All HCES students will return to school on Monday, November 30. I trust you will take time to enjoy family, good food, and a little relaxation.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I am grateful for many things - my family both at home and work, our amazing parent and community support, and the chance to make a difference each day. Enjoy your time with friends and family! I look forward to our return on November 30.
Sincerely,
Autumn H. Bray - Principal

The HCES PTA would like to THANK all the committee members of the Fall Festival for making this important school social event possible.
Thank you to the HCES Fall Festival chair, Megan Dake for heading up the event. Other key volunteers were Julie Kuetemeyer for coordinating the enormous task of Volunteer Coordinator, Callie Beevers for heading up the Silent Auction, Jodie Monroe for handling advertising and Beth Bryant, Kavitha Hichkad, Julie Sawyer, and Johnnie Bradt for taking care of the many awesome games. Many thanks also go to Tammy Benjamin for organizing food vendors, Toni Wessells for setting up all of our terrific vendor booths, Elizabeth Hamrick for providing face painting and finally - Sarah Stark and Mrs. Lowery, HCES's own Art teacher, for organizing our art project!
Many more parents, students and teachers were involved in making this event a special tradition at our school, and we are very thankful for all your time and efforts.
It is with much gratitude and love we support Ms. Tammy Dennis as she begins a new journey as an employee of Huntsville Hospital. Ms. Dennis served students at Hampton Cove Elementary School for the past seven years. She worked as an Instructional Aide as well as a Clerical Aide during her time at HCES. Ms. Dennis always brought a smile to our staff and to the families of HCES. She was a servant leader and an amazing employee.
We wish Ms. Dennis the best!
Please welcome to the Hampton Cove Elementary School office, Ms. Jonie Christensen. Although we will miss Ms. Dennis, we are excited to gain such a positive and friendly team member in Ms. Christensen. We appreciate your patience during this transition.
Autumn Bray - HCES Principal
Congratulations Ms. Ana Hernandez!

CP Spotlight: Johnson Orthodontics & Mathnasium
|
Johnson Orthodontics is proud to be a community partner with Hampton Cove Schools for the 4th year in a row! Dr. Nathan Johnson is a board certified orthodontist specializing in braces and Invisalign for children, teens and adults. Our office is committed to creating healthy, happy smiles. We have two convenient locations with offices in Jones Valley and Downtown Huntsville. We offer complimentary consultations and will gladly file your insurance. Please give us a call at 256-489-1868. We look forward to meeting you and your family!

The Mathnasium Method is a unique approach to learning. We teach only math, from Kindergarten to college, as well as ACT/SAT prep. We use sophisticated techniques to determine - with great accuracy - what a student knows and does not know. Next, we tailor a personalized and prescriptive learning program. Each student follows the program with the help of specially trained Mathnasium teachers who provide instruction, and lots of warm encouragement. For proof of progress, we rely on the student's report card, independent tests, and parent testimony, to measure the speed and magnitude of improvement in math skills, numerical thinking, and attitude.
Mathnasium of Huntsville is excited to partner with HCMS in offering our PTA Appreciation Per Student Giveaway. Be sure to mention HCMS PTA when signing up to become a member of Mathnasium and we will give your PTA $25 for each sign-up. Call, click or stop by for more information.
