President's Letter
Debbie Tetrault,
PTA President
Thanks to all that came out for our annual Grandparents' Breakfast on September 14 and 15. We had great participation, and it was awesome to see all of the grandparents, special friends and families together. This year, we offered a grandparents family photo day with Lifetouch on both days, and we hope that your families were able to take advantage of that.  A huge thank you goes to Jennifer Watts, as well as her boys and parents for helping make this event a huge success.

Please encourage your children to participate in the National PTA Reflections program! Entries are due on Friday, October 23. For nearly 50 years, PTA has inspired millions of students to become involved in the arts through Reflections. The National PTA Reflections Program welcomes all grades and abilities to explore and be involved in the arts. Annually, thousands of students will reflect on a common theme and create original works of art in one of six categories.

Thanks to all faculty and families that became members of the PTA this school year! We submitted the HCES PTA dues to Huntsville's PTA (HCPTAs) on Wednesday, September 30. Benefits of membership include individual discounts and access to various programs like Reflections. Additionally, our school is able to access resources and other programs at the city, state and national level through our PTA membership.  Thank you to Karen Whitaker for all of her hard work in getting this information together for our PTA, families, and faculty.
Also, THANK YOU for your generosity to our school and PTA through our annual Support Our Students (SOS) program. The SOS final payment date has passed (September 18). We've had approximately 50% of our student population participate in this program. While we appreciate any and all donations, that's down approximately 2% over last year.  Of course, we accept any additional donations of any amount at any time! Also, if you work for a company that has a matching gift program, please consider that too.  A huge thanks to Jo Ann Grosnick for managing this program for a second school time this school year.
In an effort to ensure that your PTA forms and payments are secure as possible, we ask that you send all forms and checks to the PTA in a sealed envelope that's clearly marked with the form's purpose. Also, please try to get these to the HCES Front Office as directly as possible, either through your child's backpack or by dropping off the envelope in the school office.
This year, the HCES PTA will embark on a journey to become a National PTA School of Excellence (SOE) school.  Our HCES PTA enrolled in this program last week.  The process kicks off with a PTA survey of administrator(s) and families.  Please look forward to this short (approximately 30 questions) survey just after Fall Break.  Our PTA will offer incentives for completing the survey, as well.
Highlights for October include our first school and PTA-supported Math Pep Rally on Friday, October 2 at 1:45 pm in the HCES cafetorium. That leads us right into Fall Break on October 5-9. Note that children are in school on Columbus Day - Monday, October 12. A PTA family photo day with Spoiled Rotten Photography will be held on Saturday, October 17 at HCES, with proceeds benefiting the 4th and 5th grade field trips.  Please see the article below for a sign-up link and information. We will have a Spirit Night at Domino's on Wednesday, October 21. Reflections entries are due to the school on Friday, October 23, and this is also another student ½ day.  We end the month with our annual Fall Festival on Saturday, October 31.
Sincerely,
HCES PTA President

Principal's Letter
Autumn Bray, Principal
Fall is finally here and Hampton Cove Elementary School has some great things in store! To celebrate our love for math, all grade levels will be participating in a Math Pep Rally on Friday, October 2. Our goal is to promote a love of math and inspire students to persevere through problems. This event will also provide the opportunity to celebrate learning and the completion of the first quarter.

Students did an amazing job on their recent Schoolnet Benchmark tests. These tests help to determine mastery on quarterly grade level standards. Each quarter student in grades kindergarten through fifth grade take a reading and a math assessment. This data is used to provide next steps for instruction. Our next benchmark assessments will be given in December. Quarterly standards can be found on our district level site under the Curriculum and Instruction tab.

Monday, October 5th begins Fall Break. The school will be closed from Monday, October 5th through Friday, October 9th. School will resume on Monday, October 12th. I hope you are able to take this time and enjoy activities with your family. Upon return, please look for report cards to come home on Wednesday, October 21. The last week of October HCES will host Red Ribbon Week. Ms. Belvitt, our guidance counselor, will send additional information regarding this event. [See Red Ribbon Week Article below]

Fall Festival is around the corner and our PTA has great activities planned for our community. Thank you to Meg Dake for chairing this event! Boxes for 2-liter drinks, stuffed animals, and candy are located at the front office. Classrooms are working to provide "Class Baskets" for our Silent Auction. Local vendors will be available with great products and services to sell. We appreciate any support you can provide to make this event special for our students. Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, October 31st from 10 until 2. I hope to see you there!

Thank you again for your continued support! The partnership between the students, teachers, and parents is what makes Hampton Cove Elementary a premiere school in our state. Thank you for always going the extra mile to ensure our students are ready to learn and grow. As always, please feel free to contact me by phone (256.428.7180) or e-mail autumn.bray@hsv-k12.org with questions or concerns.

CP Spotlight: H.A.P.P.I. & Valley Conservatory
H.A.P.P.I.
Since its inception in June 2010, H.A.P.P.I.(Healthy Adult and Pediatric Provider Involvement) has always sought to meet, then exceed the needs of our growing community. From our humble   beginning as a small, full service pediatric office, we have grown substantially. We attribute our growth to one thing....Listening To Our Patients. As patients began to ask for same-day appointments, we answered with a walk-in/urgent care clinic and more medical providers for adults as well as pediatric patie nts. When adults requested primary care for themselves, we added a primary care family practice doctor and again, increased the number of medical providers to provide care. Our pediatric practice has expanded to include a nutrition/obesity clinic, as well as an ADHD clinic. Our family practice has grown so much in the past year that we have added more appointment times and dates for increased services for adults. Presently, we are expanding our downtown urgent care clinic, due to open in mid-November. Being active with the community outside our walls is an important part of what we do as well. Our involvement with the Liz Hurley Ribbon Run and providing helmets for WZYP's annual Bikes or Bust bicycle drive gives us and our staff great joy. H.A.P.P.I. has also been active with various community Health Fairs, Fall Festivals, the HCMS Bull Run, HCES/GSES/HCMS Community Partners and our own annual patient carnival. When it comes to being involved, health-wise or community related, we are always HAPPI to have a part.
