Principal's Letter |
Hampton Cove Families, Greetings! The end of the school year is quickly approaching and we still have many things to accomplish. Students have been working diligently preparing for and beginning to take their yearly assessments. We are so proud of our students for their drive to succeed. Thank you to our parents, community, teachers, and staff for joining forces in an effort to provide excellence for ALL students. State testing is right around the corner. Testing begins May 4th and concludes on May 8th. The ACT Aspire will be in a digital format this year and students will complete the assessment using their device. Students, grades third through fifth, should come prepared each day with their charged computer. Please ensure students get plenty of rest and have a hearty breakfast. The month of May is also time for celebrations and memories. This month we have several special events to celebrate and honor our students. To begin, all parents are invited to attend our annual Spring Fling event on May 15th. This is a day full of organized fun and friendly competitions such as tug-of-war. Students will rotate stations with their class and enjoy a day of fun and games. In May we also celebrate our fifth grade students. Students (fifth grade only) were invited to participate in our annual Sock Hop. Food, fun, and dancing made this event a night to remember. In addition, we recognize our fifth grade students on May 20th in our Bridging Ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 8:30 and will be followed by the May Pole outdoors. We are so proud of the leaders these students have become. Next year our rising third through fifth grade students will receive new Lenova computers from the District. These devices have touch screen capability, screen rotation options, and Windows 8 operating system. Current computers, chargers, and bags will be collected the last week of school. Devices will be picked up from HCES on May 21st. More information will be provided, as we get closer to this date. As we begin to plan for the upcoming school year please be sure to register your child through our on-line registration tool - Infosnap. For returning students, please visit the Hampton Cove Elementary website and click "Returning Student Enrollment" by May 22nd. In the next few weeks we will begin to organize class rolls for the 2015-2016 school year. Please note we do not accept specific teacher recommendations. However, you may submit a letter describing the environment your child works best in and/or describe your child's personality so we may find the best fit for your child. Letters should be addressed to me and will be accepted through May 22nd. Lastly, I would like to thank our outgoing PTA board for an amazing year. These ladies have spent countless hours organizing events, welcoming new families, and supporting our students. On April 30th the board accepted an award at the District level for Supporting School Success. Congratulations on a well-deserved award! Thank you for a wonderful year at Hampton Cove Elementary. I look forward to partnering with you to make 2015-2016 another successful and memorable school year. Sincerely, Autumn H. Bray Principal Hampton Cove Elementary School

Clinic News
|
The time has arrived to prepare for the end of the year clinic closing and begin preparation for the next school year.
All medication in the clinic must be picked up and signed out from the school (by a parent or guardian) clinic on or before the last day of school - Friday, May 22. Any remaining medication will be destroyed at the end of the last day of school, according to HCS' procedures, state and federal guidelines.
School Management Plans and medication authorization forms DO NOT carry over to the next school year. Remember to schedule appointments early during the summer to have any medication/forms required at school renewed by your healthcare provider. Medical forms needed can be obtained online during Infosnap registration, on the HSC website under Health Services and in the clinic. If your child has a Management Plan and/or medication in the clinic, a Management Plan packet for next year will be sent home with your child. Read the instructions on the management plans carefully as there have been many changes made to the plans.
Immunization (blue cards) records must be up-to-date prior to the beginning of the new school year. Students entering the 6th grade are required to have a current TDap. Fifth grade parents need to take the updated blue card to the Middle School your child will be attending. Immunizations and Certificates of Immunization may be obtained from the Madison County Health Dept., military clinics or private health care providers.

5th: Daniel Starnes
Many thanks go to our wonderful HCES teachers for giving our children opportunities to pursue advanced math. A great time was had by all, and we are looking forward to next year!

Reflections
|
Reflections Program
The Reflections program is a national PTA cultural arts competition that gives students a chance to express their thoughts through creative arts based on this year's theme.
Our 2014 - 2015 Reflections Program with the Theme: The world would be a better place if....
has concluded. However, the National PTA Competition is still to come for our very own Ellie Cribbet. We can't wait to hear how she makes out. Good luck, Ellie!
We would again like to thank all our participants for entering and doing such an amazing job.
Our school has lots of very talented students. We hope to see even more of that talent displayed in our 2015 - 2016 entries. Start thinking ahead because here is next year's theme.

"The Sneeches" Performance |
The Sneeches
Friday, May 8
8:00 am & 7:00 pm Performances
Hampton Cove Elementary Cafeteria
Free Admission
Hampton Cove Middle School students will present their version of the Dr. Seuss story, "The Sneetches". This is a story about bullying, segregation and self-identity. It tells the story of how one group was bullied by the other group and how they tried to change to be accepted by the bullies only to discover in the end that it is always best to just be yourself. It's a fun story for all ages with a great message and includes fun music to sing and dance to. We will have two performances on Friday, May 8, one at 8:30 am for students and another at 7:00 pm for the community. Admission is free, so no tickets are needed.

Walk for Autism Update
|
Event Update
I would like to extend a very special thank you to the Hampton Cove Community. We had a successful event. There were close to 1500 people at the Walk that included our local vendors. With the tallying process still underway, we expect to have raised over $35,000 that includes our sponsorship drive, registrations and puzzle piece promotions.
A special thanks goes to Autumn Bray, Kitrise Torain and Tracy Inman for allowing us to utilize the children & the school for our AWARENESS project.
Huntsville is greatly affected by this Neurological disorder. We are aware of the times ahead of us, realizing that we have to support the Autism Community. These children, teenagers and adults on the Spectrum are a part of our everyday lives. They need to be included and educated as our own. We are blessed to be in Hampton Cove where our children have great support!
Sincerely,
Jenny Morris

Community Partner Spotlight: Mathnasium
|
Mathnasium of Huntsville helps prevent the summer slide! Studies show that during summer break, many students lose more than 2 months of the math computational skills that they learned during the school year. We help children in grades K-12 reach their potential in math by teaching in a way that makes sense to them. Students leap way ahead - whether they started out far behind or are already ahead in math.
When enrolling, mention your PTA and we will give a $25 donation. For more information about our program, call 256-885-0886 or come by and visit us at 2124 Cecil Ashburn Drive. We make math make sense!
