Compensation Best Practices for 2015

For the past several years, we have brought you best practice trends in the area of Compensation, from our friends at PayScale - and it's that time of year again!  We are excited to share this report reflecting employers' attitudes and perceptions about key business issues including compensation practices, hiring trends, HR methodology and other topics related to effective talent management.  A few highlights from this paper include:
  • Employers can no longer afford to improvise when it comes to attracting and retaining talent.  They must establish a data-driven compensation strategy to meet the current and future needs of their incoming new hires.
  • More survey respondents reported growth in 2014 and for the vast majority of them, they expect their financial outlook for 2015 to improve even more so.
  • For the third year in a row, retention remains a top concern of most employers and they are struggling to fill positions - particularly for highly trained employees - as they cite a lack of qualified applicants.

Bottom line - - this year's report notes that companies need to become much more mindful about getting pay right if they expect to attract and retain the employees who are crucial to their business.

I invite you to download and spend some time reviewing this insightful report.  And if any of these topics strike a cord of panic (or even just concern), please get in touch with us.

HR Strategy Group is here to help you with your compensation planning, recruitment process and organizational development efforts.

HR Advisory Services
High-level HR expertise including employment handbooks, appraisals, compensation and much more.

TIP:  Offer "alternative" benefits!  Consider offering teleworking or telecommuting options for your employees at all levels.  This type of benefit can result in an incredible productivity boost for all involved.  Remember that not one size fits everyone, yet since there are several ways to make it work, it can be a win-win for you as a business owner and for your employees.

Recruitment & Search
Flexible recruitment and search packages to find the right candidate for your organization.

TIP:  Let the interviewee know who he/she will meet with! Do not underestimate the power of a well designed and well communicated agenda.  Let your candidate know well in advance with whom they will meet and provide the interviewer's title and place within your organization.  And don't forget to ensure your interviewer also knows who is being interviewed and for which position.  Nothing is worse than asking questions of a candidate thinking they are a possible Customer Service Rep when they are actually going for the Advertising Director spot!
HR Crisis Management
Providing expert guidance and effective solutions to challenging HR issues.

TIP:  Focus on behavior to help rejuvenate morale after a slumping sales quarter!  Your team will achieve success by focusing on the behaviors that lead to success.  Maintain your attention on reinforcing the behaviors and actions that you want your employees to do instead of the outcome you're seeking.  For example, support and encourage staff to make 10 calls per day versus making 10 sales per quarter.
HR Services for Federal Contractors
Helping federal contractors be successful by addressing their specific HR needs.

TIP: It's all about who you know when recruiting for niche contract positions!  It really isn't about WHAT you know but WHO you know.  Engage in lots of networking well in advance of needing to fill a position.  Even when you don't have a current opening, realize that you will in the future so keep yourself "meeting and greeting."  Once a position does open up, call upon your network and engage in an aggressive social media  outreach.  Utilize your personal network, as appropriate, to aide in filling specialized rolls.
