Start of Summer - Our New Services, Website, and Newsletter

I hope you enjoyed the long Memorial day weekend and welcome to the beginning of the summer.  I'd also like to welcome you to HR Strategy Group's fresh and updated newsletter that highlights and describes our newly redefined service offerings. These are also reflected in our redesigned website.  Please check out our tips below as we help to educate and provide resourceful HR related insights.

With the start of a new season, I spent some time reflecting on our current client base and noted how it has grown and expanded across industries and company sizes.  We are proudly supporting two prominent local restaurant groups, a large quasi-government agency, several non-profits, both large and small, and an IT firm, among others.  Our experience continues to grow as we support organizations ranging in size from seven to 4,000 employees.  Contact us with your difficult HR issues - - Let's see what we can do to support you.

Warmly,

HR Advisory Services
High-level HR expertise including employment handbooks, appraisals, compensation and much more.

TIP:  Make Feedback Timely and Specific!  To be effective, feedback must be given in a timely fashion and it must be specific. When setting goals, be precise and unambiguous so as to avoid misunderstandings.  Further, provide the feedback immediately (or as close as possible) after you witness the behavior.  Waiting for a day, two weeks or six months will completely eliminate any positive reinforcement that the immediate acknowledgment provides.  Utilize the S-M-A-R-T approach in providing feedback - - Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely.
Recruitment & Search
Flexible recruitment and search packages to find the right candidate for your organization.

TIP:  Pay Competitively!  In other words, know what to pay new employees and ensure equity with current employees  Perform a market study to determine the appropriate salary range for this position. Then avoid paying a new employee more than you pay a loyal, existing staff member.  If performance warrants it, consider a raise for your employee letting him/her know you value his/her contributions.

HR Crisis Management
Providing expert guidance and effective solutions to challenging HR issues.

TIP:  Be Visible After a Devastating PR Storm!  First and foremost, be our front and talk to your employees - A LOT!  Don't hide in your office - explicitly tell your staff what you are doing to fix the problems that caused the uproar.  And utilize the S-M-A-R-T approach, noted above, to hold management accountable in correcting these issues.
HR Services for Federal Contractors
Helping federal contractors be successful by addressing their specific HR needs.

TIP: Understand the Service Contract Act 101!  Are you a government contractor who is performing services on a covered federal or District of Columbia contract in excess of $2,500 and the principal purpose is to furnish services through the use of service employees? If you answered yes, then your contract is most likely covered under the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). The SCA requires contractors and subcontractors performing services for the federal government to pay service employees in various classes no less than the monetary wage rates and to furnish fringe benefits found prevailing in the locality. This topic can be quite confusing for employers as it requires an understanding of the SCA and how it works.
  • Get familiar with your contract and know which positions fall under the SCA Wage Determination.
  • Perform an audit to ensure that you are paying these employees the minimum wage rate for their position in their location according to the Wage Determination.
  • Be sure to provide them with the minimum fringe benefits also found in the Wage Determination.
  • Check to see if the Wage Determination provided in your contract is even or odd as this determines how you provide the fringe benefits.
  • Finally, be sure to read up on the Service Contract Act and have a good understanding so that you can be sure you are in compliance.
