Providing Human Resource
Solutions at the Speed of YOUR
Business!
Welcome from HR Strategy Group

Greetings!

So did we make the jump too fast?  From falling leaves to holiday parties?  With your best interest at heart, we simply want to ensure you and your organization are prepared - - when the party memo goes out - - to have a safe and successful event!  (But don't fret, you still have plenty of time for your holiday shopping!)  So read our article below on helpful tips for those attending Company Holiday Parties.

In the Compensation Corner this month, I have reprinted a blog written by a Compensation Consultant for PayScale that delivers the message - - "Your company is not too small for a compensation plan."   Think about it and how it just may apply to you and your organization!

Finally, our Spot Check provides information about managing Form I-9s as well as how to setup E-Verify for those businesses located in states that require new hire verification and those who simply desire more data about their newest employees.

As this newsletter comes out, Hurricane Sandy is beating at our door so I wish you all - - no power interruptions and a short lived storm.  Stay safe!

Best,

Holiday Parties:  Do's and Don'ts  (Back by popular demand... )

Holiday parties are here - - it's that time of the year again.  So while some of you may want to run and hide, you really do need to at least show your pretty little face.   Once you walk through those doors, keep the following little hints in mind to ensure a fun (or at least tolerable) event!

Tip #1:  Introduce yourself.   This isn't the time to be a wall flower - you have the opportunity to meet your company's management and leaders from other departments. They're human, just like you. So shake their hand firmly, introduce yourself and say hello. Also, remember that spouses and guests may feel uncomfortable not knowing anyone - almost like the 5th wheel. So, please do your best to make them feel welcome -they may be much more fun to talk with than your colleagues!

Tip #2: Use the event - don't just survive it!  You actually have a great opportunity to network with colleagues you may not interact with on a regular basis. Take advantage of that time. You may have been confined to your own department and relatively sheltered from others and this is a prime chance for you to gain some breadth of knowledge about your company. Branch out and meet others.

Tip #3: Stay away from ..

HR Strategy Group, LLC in partnership with National Crime Search (NCS) offers:

Form I-9 and E-Verify

This easy to use system guides and stores new hire Form I-9s online and returns E-Verify results within minutes.  E-Verify continues to be voluntary for most of the country; however, more and more states are passing legislation requiring a number of businesses to verify their new hire employment eligibility with E-Verify.

Compensation Bannr
"We're too small for a comp plan."   WRONG Answer!

From the blog by:

Mykkah Herner, MA, CCP

Compensation Consultant at PayScale

I've worked with organizations of various employee sizes, from as small as 19 up into the thousands, helping them to develop stellar compensation plans.  I really enjoy working with companies that have between 75 and 125 employees. Generally, by that point, there is some acknowledgment that what they are currently doing isn't working. There is also often some concern about developing something too rigid. These organizations will typically see a huge positive business impact from developing a clear comp plan
