August Chapter Meeting & Luncheon |
Monday August 11 , 2014 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Omni Fort Worth Hotel | 1300 Houston Street
Presented By:
Carole V. Rylander, CFRE
With more than 28 years of service in the non-profit sector, Carole offers customized solutions in fund development, planning and governance to non-profit organizations.
She was named Outstanding Fundraising Executive by the Dallas Chapter of AFP and has held accreditation as a Certified Fund Raising Executive since 1990.
Program:
Intentional Stewardship
Most of us focus our time and resources on the tactics of securing and renewing donations, with the understanding that building donor loyalty is paramount.
But research is telling us that donor loyalty is not driven by fundraising appeal and renewal tactics! Rather, tactics account for less than 20% of the total retention value. High commitment or loyalty is attributable to the range of donor experiences the entire organization provides. In short, the collective actions our organizations offer determines whether donors renew or not.
So, how intentional are our donor stewardship programs? What donor experiences are we offering - or could we offer? What if we considered ourselves as "philanthropic travel agents," helping donors identify and reach their giving destinations?
On August 11 Carole Rylander, CFRE, will facilitate discussion of these provocative questions. We will create a comprehensive list of donor experience strategies and review a planning framework for enhancing the loyalty of your donors.

President's Message
"In the arena of human life the honors and rewards fall to those who show their good qualities in action." -Aristotle |
O.K. so it's a very old quote. But it still has power. Aristotle summarized one of the most essential aspects of fundraising with the above quote. Recoginizing our donors is a crucial part of our jobs. We all know the importance of keeping those donors and volunteers engaged with our organization and mission. We want them to feel included and valued.
National Philanthropy Day (NPD)
This annual event is a wonderful way to recognize your organization's special donors and volunteers. Co-chairs Nancy Jetter, CFRE and Beth Zimmerman, CFRE are working with a dedicated committee on the upcoming October 30th luncheon. The 2014 NPD Award Honorees have been chosen so please join me in congratulating these wonderful awardees.

Outstanding Professional Fundraising Executive:

Missy was a Development Officer with the Fort Worth Zoo during its $40 million Texas Wild! Campaign. She oversaw every aspect of this transformational effort.
Missy joined a national fundraising firm in 2002, providing consulting services to many organizations in the DFW area. In 2008, Missy launched M. Gale & Associates, LLC, and now serves not only metroplex clients, but also clients around the country.
Congratulations Missy!
Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy:
Colonial Kids for a Cause What started out as a neighborhood lemonade stand has blossomed into a social business venture to benefit various causes in our community. Colonial Kids for a Cause started five years ago with 14 children from six different families, who decided to take their lemonade stand to a new level during the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. The kids had the vision to use the money they earned from the lemonade sales to help others. The children nominate the organizations they would like to support and then invite nominees to make a presentation to the group. Initially the group chose charities that mirrored those of the golf tournament, like Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation the year Phil Michelson's wife was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. They have also supported military families providing care packages for those serving overseas. In 2012, the group supported the Henry House Foundation and Cook Children's Medical Center. Colonial Kids for a Cause welcomes everyone. Although officially comprised of 14 children, more than 20 children help out with the lemonade stand annually. The children range in age from 6-15. Way to go kids!
