Legislative Report

We are so proud of the work the Conservation Federation of Missouri, our affiliate partners and so many individual Missouri citizens are collectively accomplishing. The legislative session has ended and great strides were made this year. This article touches on the direction we are heading.

From Our Blog:

Teal Arriving in Time for Opener

Teal arrive out of nowhere and often buzz the decoys before you have time to raise your shotgun. These fast flying small ducks are often the waterfowler's first opportunity of the season, and many of us have a hard time shaking off the rust and limiting out. No matter. Just being in the marsh again, hunting ducks, is enough to stir the soul of any dedicated waterfowl hunter.

In Missouri, teal season runs September 12 - 27. You may hunt blue-winged teal, green-winged teal and cinnamon teal. The daily bag limit is six and the possession limit is 18.

A limit can be comprised of any combination of the above-mentioned teal species. To legally hunt teal, you must possess a small game hunting permit, migratory bird hunting permit and a federal duck stamp. You may use shotguns, 10 gauge or smaller. Shotguns that hold more than 3 shells must be plugged. You must use nontoxic shot only. You cannot hunt waterfowl with lead shot.

Teal hunting isn't the large-scale affair waterfowling often becomes later in the season. A dozen decoys will do fine in a small puddle of water. Ideal teal habitat is shallow sloughs, marshes and drying...

Celebrating 80 Years of the Conservation Federation of Missouri
On September 10, 1935, Missourians from around the state came together at the Tiger Hotel in Columbia to discuss the deplorable state of Missouri's natural resources. At this meeting, CFM was born. The 80 years since have been full of remarkable successes.

CFM's newest video highlights a Missouri conservation legend, Bill Crawford. Mr. Crawford was present at the meeting and recounts the day and the condition of the state at the time.

CFM has countless accomplishments to celebrate from the past 80 years, but we know it's the next 80 years that matter now. We continue to work everyday to protect Missouri's forest, fish and wildlife.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conservation, at bottom, rests on the conviction that there are  things in this world more important than dollar signs and ciphers. Many of these other things attach to the land, and to the life that is on it and in it. People who know these things have been growing scarcer but less so in Missouri than elsewhere. This is why conservation is possible here. If conservation can become a living reality, it can do so in Missouri. This is because Missourians, in my opinion, are not completely industrialized in mind and spirit, and I hope never will be. - Aldo Leopold, 1938

Regulation is essential to conservation; the two are inseparable; to divide them would be like trying to build a savings account and giving a second party a book of blank checks. There is a lot of false phobia about wildlife regulation in the hands of state departments. It is not dangerous; it affects no property right; it invades no private right; it is nothing more than rationing the annual crop; it is an essential administrative function. - E. Sydney Stephens, 1946

The Conservation Federation of Missouri as an organization serves to discover, even to stimulate, to express and translate to action the public will in matters affecting conservation. - Charles Callison, 1948
Affiliate Summit
September 17-18, 2015
Attention Affiliates,

Last year, CFM held our Inaugural Affiliate Summit. Over 100 individuals attended representing more than 40 affiliates. Although most CFM affiliates have specific initiatives, each has the overarching goal of ensuring Missouri remains the conservation model other states strive to become.

In order to better organize our collective power as the conservation community of Missouri, we hope you will attend the Second Annual CFM Affiliate Summit  on September 17-18 at the Inn at Grand Glaize at Lake of the Ozarks. Your attendance, along with additional leaders of your organization, will benefit all other attendees, and will help ensure this summit is as productive as possible. If you cannot attend, please send someone else from your organization. We welcome paid staff and passionate volunteers.

This year's Affiliate Summit will feature impressive speakers and cover important topics. Schedule details can be viewed HERE.
