OCOM Bulletin
JULY 2012
Greetings!

What a month. In like a dragon...out like a firework! OCOM wrapped up June with the award of our official certificate of occupancy for the new campus and clinic in Portland's Old Town Chinatown.

As if that's not enough to celebrate, we've had a lot of excitement on campus with new hires, including four new full-time faculty additions and a new Herbal Medicinary Manager. We were also down at the new building in June for two well-attended events and tours: the OCOM Alumni Association's second annual CE event and social and a Thank You, PDC! barbeque from our campus building partners, Beam Development and LCG Pence. Check out photos from both events on our relocation webpage and view the latest photos of the building.

Don't forget to save the date for our October 5 ribbon-cutting ceremony ---- we'd love to see you there!

Happy July!

bldgupdateBuilding Update: It's Official!

On June 30, the college was awarded the certificate of occupancy for our new campus and clinic at 75 NW Couch Street. Though we won't officially opening the doors until September, the college will be slowly setting up the space to welcome students and patients alike.

Between now and August 26, OCOM's facilities and IT departments will be hard at work preparing offices, the library and all our IT systems. From August 27 through September 6, the college will physically move staff offices to the new campus from our current Southeast Portland location.

On September 12, we will open our third treatment facility ---- OCOM Clinic ---- offering acupuncture, massage and Chinese herbal medicine to the public. We will also continue to provide services at our two current clinic locations, the OCOM Cherry Blossom Clinic and OCOM Hollywood Clinic. Classes will begin on Wednesday, September 19.

Don't forget to join us on Friday, October 5 for our ribbon-cutting ceremony. Download the save the date card ---- we hope to see you there!

pdcbbqThanks, PDC!

On June 1, OCOM joined our building contractor LCG Pence and developer Beam Development in hosting a thank you BBQ celebration for Portland Development Commission (PDC).

PDC ---- whose mission is to create one of the world's most desirable and equitable cities by investing in job creation, innovation and economic opportunity throughout Portland ---- was instrumental in helping the college locate and create the innovative financing package for our new home in Old Town Chinatown.

welcomekateWelcome Kate Moksnes, Herbal Medicinary Manager

Kate MoksnesOCOM extends a warm welcome to Kate Moksnes, the college's new Herbal Medicinary Manager. A recent alum of OCOM, Kate joined the Clinic Operations team this spring and will be leading an exciting transition that includes the development and management of the OCOM Herbal Medicinary, opening in September on the ground floor of our new campus building.

Kate's background in the grocery and natural foods world, as well as her exemplary performance as a work-study student in OCOM's herbal dispensary, made her the ideal choice for this position.
