Help MoveOn Celebrate Democracy
Pro-Amendment Rally
Federal Courthouse, 6th Street and Broadway

Come to a rally to support a proposed constitutional amendment
that will open the path for reform of the problem of
too much Money in Politics.

The amendment under consideration (S.J.Res. 19) will have a vote in the  US Senate in July or August. A Senate vote will tell us which Senators favor limiting $$$ in elections and which favor more $$$ in elections.

The Pro-Amendment Rally is set as a preface to July 4th celebrations and will be held at noon on July 2nd in front of the Federal Courthouse at 6th and Broadway. There will be street theater and speakers knowledgeable about the need for this reform by an Amendment.

Let our MoveOn Council member, George Schuhmann, know if you will be there by responding on this website.  And if you want to help to put on the event, George can be contacted at 802-5833 or sadrien@aol.com.

Sponsors include The Story of Stuff, Sierra Club, MoveOn.Org, Progressive Change Campaign Committee, People for the American Way, the Other 98%, GreenPeace, Friends of Earth, Common Cause and Public Citizen.

Louisville Sustainability Forum
Wednesday, July 2nd, 12 - 1:45 pm
Passionist Earth and Spirit Center
(located behind St Agnes Church at 1920 Newburg Road)

Featured Presentation
Water Privatization: An Environmental Justice Concern
Liz Virgo, student at UofL

There is a global water crisis. The world's fresh waters are becoming increasingly polluted and ground water supplies are increasingly tapped, making our environment less sustainable for future generations. While the number of people that cannot access fresh water for their daily needs is growing, so is the private water market. Many wealthy corporations purchase land and water rights in a given region and monopolize or drastically damage water supplies that formerly sustained local citizens.

Liz Virgo, an undergraduate anthropology student at UofL, will discuss the process by which many people are denied access to safe water so that corporations can profit. Her recent essay "Water Privatization: An Environmental Justice Concern" was a winner of the 2014 Anne Braden Social Justice Institute Research Award.

Rally for a PlantPure Nation
with Dr. T. Colin Campbell
Iroquois Amphitheater

Did you know that the single most important factor in climate change is the food we choose to eat? The connection of diet to the environment cannot be overstated.

Rally for a PlantPure Nation on Saturday, July 12 at Iroquois Amphitheater in Louisville, KY, is the first of its kind in the US.  It will kick off a new grassroots movement to transform our healthcare system, our system of food production, and our relationship with the environment.

Scientist and author Dr. T. Colin Campbell joins his son, filmmaker Nelson Campbell, for a rally to address the growing public interest and continued government and industry resistance to the plant-based diet.

From his best-selling book The China Study and the hit documentary film Forks Over Knives, Dr. Campbell's research into the benefits of a plant-based diet has inspired millions of people of all ages who have experienced health benefits when avoiding animal-based and processed foods.

The event will include a sneak peek of the powerful new documentary PlantPure Nation (http://www.plantpurenation.com).

Kentucky State Representative Tom Riner, the critically-acclaimed band Driftwood, and local favorites kRi and Hettie will join the Campbells on stage.

Doors open and Driftwood kicks off at 6:30; Program begins at 7:30.
Local business will offer samples of plant-based food and beverages.
FREE Tickets are available online or through the Iroquois Amphitheater Box Office.

Social Change Book Club exploring
A More Beautiful Question by Warren Berger
Heine Bros. Coffee, 119 Chenoweth Lane, St Matthews

In A More Beautiful Question: The Power of Inquiry to Spark Breakthrough Ideas, our July book, journalist and author Warren Berger examines the science of questioning and the ways in which the world's top innovators have used it to their advantage. Questioning can help us identify and solve problems, come up with innovative ideas, and pursue fresh opportunities. Berger explores how, in asking "the question that defined the problem,"  entrepreneurs have moved from product conception to profitable execution.

The Social Change Book Club is open to everyone who is interested in understanding, participating, leading, or supporting social change. Please just show up if you are interested--no RSVP, commitment, etc. It is great when people have read the book, but that is not a requirement to come and discuss.

Hosted by Howard Mason

Elders and Wisdom Keepers
Joanna Macy

Eco-philosopher Joanna Macy PhD, is a scholar of Buddhism, general systems theory, and deep ecology. A respected voice in the movements for peace, justice, and ecology, she interweaves her scholarship with five decades of activism. As the root teacher of "the Work That Reconnects", she has created a ground-breaking theoretical framework for personal and social change, as well as a powerful workshop methodology for its application.

Her wide-ranging work addresses psychological and spiritual issues of the nuclear age, the cultivation of ecological awareness, and the fruitful resonance between Buddhist thought and contemporary science.

Many thousands of people around the world have participated in Joanna's workshops and trainings. Her group methods, known as "the Work That Reconnects", have been adopted and adapted yet more widely in classrooms, churches, and grassroots organizing.

Her work helps people transform despair and apathy, in the face of overwhelming social and ecological crises, into constructive, collaborative action. It brings a new way of seeing the world, as our larger living body, freeing us from the assumptions and attitudes that now threaten the continuity of life on Earth.  Learn more on her website.
